I always thought of Hammerheads as the Lashers of destroyers. Good as support but if you slap safety overrides on it is can go on a fucking rampage, and it's relatively easy to get the weapons for it.
But sunders with 3 mining blasters + safety overrides I find a lot more fun because you just deal so much fucking damage.

Sunders are just great overall. Hammerheads are nice but quickly fall off when cruisers start appearing in force, but the large slot on the Sunder allows it to fight the big boys

I wouldn't say "great overall" They have a lot of weaknesses. But used correctly they're a terrific player ship.

This heavy cruiser burn drives up to your carrier and slaps her ass, what do you do? Keep in mind he has over 1,650 armor, devastator cannons, and his burn drive is about to cool down.

non-player frigates are for jumping in and out and dealing burst damages. i've never ever ever seen AI handle beams properly on fast ships.

I don't trust any ships other than Brawlers to survive their initial assault, so I always give them safe support weapons. I'll have to experiment with SO though.
