Some anons have the disillusion that the remake will have some of the cut colossi restored into the game.

It'd be pretty dope if they went above and beyond to do that, but they won't.

Nah there was 8 cut Colossi

Some were cut at the last minute despite being pretty much finished, on the demo disc Dormin even warns you about the cut tape worm colossi

it's so lame
>>
I just dont see the point of remaking the game if they wont add the cut content. The HD PS3 game already exists.
>>
There were some grander ideas," Ueda said, "such as changing Shadow's ending or adding some of the colossi that got cut from the original, and honestly having features like that would've been attractive from a business perspective. If we put just a few extras in, though, gamers would naturally expect more than what we could provide. Instead of just putting in a few half-baked things, I thought it'd be better to stick with the original concept of staying faithful to the base work. If I get another chance in the future to do a remake, I might wind up changing quite a lot more."

Fumito Ueda - Famitsu magazine August 2011

I like this game because you;re a good guy and you know you're becoming the bad guy, but you keep on going because fuck everyone
>>
>>380399570
There was actually suppose to be an extra 8 colossi in the game but it got scrapped for whatever reason.

Unless they made the areas before hand, they won't have any incentive to do it.

while the probability is low, it'd be neat to see some of the fights, such as Sirius, Monkey, or Demon. Even spider although I think riding around and slashing legs isn't too interesting, I'd wonder how it'd move and attack.

No need to be bitter
>>
>>380400301
It's hard to deny some of the cut ones were the coolest
>>
>>380400302
I will buy a ps4 just for this and bloodborne if they don't fuck it up
>>
>>380400586
the demo disc you can slash while you ride agro, they took it out in the final version because it had no use with spider bro gone
>>
Why do I not want this remake?
I love SotC and it's probably in my top 5 games of all time. Definitely my fave on PS2 along with MGS3. For some reason though, I'm not on board with this. When I saw the trailer live I just though "Why?" Maybe I like the original game too much and think a remake might be too "clean".
>>
>>380400709
Yeah I remember watching that, I just mean it seems too simple? just riding in circles slashing with that 'meh' animation. But Spider dude still looks cool and seems so interesting
>>
>>380400586
Sirius seemed boring as fuck. It was just a slightly larger than normal pig in stone armor that you had to get stuck in between some rocks to attack it's weak point. Demon would've been fun because you have to sneak up on it and spook it to get at it's weak point. Spider would have to be made extra unsettling to be worth putting in.
>>
>>380400925
>When I saw the trailer live I just though "Why?"

Becuase they know they fucked up hard with the "HD" PS3 version
>>
>>380400984
I still think the Worm would have been the best because he appeared straight after Dirge

It's funny people say Dirge is the big NOPE moment, but they had an even bigger spook planned in that fight
>>
>yfw they have the opportunity to add the cut colossi and they don't take it
>>
>>380401287
What was wrong with it?
>>
>>380401380
Oh yeah, I forgot about the worm. It had it's weak point in it's mouth so you'd actually have to manage to get in there to do damage without dying.
>>
I'm just imagining the lake colossi in shiny new graphics with even murkier water and it makes me not want to play that game at all.
>>
>>380401402
I honestly think they will add new ones, but not any of the cut ones
>>
>>380400162
For people that skipped the PS3, these kind of remasters might be a godsend.
>>
>>380401662

>>
>>380402314
What do you mean? All PS3 HD ports were just upscaled with the same low res textures. I can't think of one HD port that didn't do this.
>>
>>380402008

>>
>>380402560
I just really didn't enjoy basaran's gimmick and I remember it fucking up my time attack score over and over again
>>
>>380402118
The thing is the colossi itself wasn't scary in it's design because it just looked like an eel without a mouth. There's just some kind of primal fear associated with big things in bodies of water.

Because you (and I) don't think the game needs improving.

It's literally perfect. SotC as it existed on the PS2 was everything it needed to be. There is no point in that game where a sane person would think 'you know what this needs? More fucking polygons!'

The only improvements the PS3 version needed was 'renders in 1080' and 'comes with Ico'.

Whats worse is the thought of how many development resources are being poured into recreating SotC, and are therefore not being poured into something original. Seriously, what's wrong with just, I don't know, grabbing those Colossi that got left on the cutting room, throwing in some new ones, and making SotC2?

Oh fuck it, when's Praey for the Gods coming out? December? Cool...

I think it's pretty obvious they're not going to add any of the cut colossi.

I would like to see them put SOMETHING at the top of the castle other than an achievement. Even if its just some footprints or a weird bird or something.

Co-op would be a fun extra mode, in addition to time trials.

Hardly. SH collection was a bunch of retards who can't code anything above a phone game having to tackle an inferior beta of the two games and churning out an abomination.

I think that's what he means. If you play the game again on an old ps2 you'll notice the audio sounds off. Obviously this was because of the limitations of the system. It was still impressive that they did get so much of an open world in one ps2 game. Not even just that another thing that will be awesome on an audio spectrum will be the inclusion of clear ambient audio. The trailer already proved they are adding that which is awesome.

Please don't post on this board with your absolutely pleb opinions and taste. Shadow of the Colossus is a masterpiece of a game and that is almost universally agreed upon here, and for a good reason, because the game is the closest thing to 'art' as video games will ever get probably.

You can say you're entitled to your opinion, but if your opinion is just flat out wrong then it's pointless.

Maybe some small creatures, but nothing too big. Part of the reason you barely saw anything beyond the lizards was to show how the land was almost devoid of any life, as if it could not sustain it, then the ending reveals that life can flourish. It's even implied that with the Dormin's original sealing undone, the forbidden lands will return to a normal state of existence instead of being in perpetual daylight.

That's what was so cool about the Forbidden Lands. Going through the whole game you saw what looked like a combination of War and Battles that had happened as well as decay from what it appears that it happened a long long time ago. It added so much to the mystery of what had happened and how they got the Colossi to where they now reside.

"patch" is a term used to describe a synthesized instrument. quality can vary, between very obviously fake to pretty convincing. The timing is always too precise and makes the whole thing sound too perfect, like there's less character to it or something.

Ah, first I've heard of that term. Hearing it I thought it just meant the way the music was "patched" together to go from one to another in the battles (and we know that some of the battles had three stages with the songs). Granted, it wasn't always perfect, at least the transition into the proper fight song once you scaled onto the colossus (though the fade in back to the initial encounter did sound better).

RDR is probably one of the few games I can think of where the music changed dynamically and never sounded off because of that. In any case, hopefully they're recreate the music for SotC faithfully and with richer detail than before.

But that wasn't really their intent. It's not like they made so much and then blocked it off to tease people, they just couldn't think of ways to properly implement them before and simply left traces so the world felt more alive and lived in rather than all gamey where everything is just the set piece for whichever colossus.

Being able to scale the tower would at least allow for something new, a challenge that could be tackled at any time for those that dare, but certainly made easier with each playthrough.

It was the same plot from Ico reused and it wasn't even that good.

Because Ico was just "boy meets girl" and nothing else. Hell, Yorda is removed for the homestretch and only plays a part in saving Ico from going down with the castle. TLG is about how the two form a deep bond with Trico becoming more and more concerned about the boy's life and in turn the boy growing to love and respect the very creature that had captured him.

Besides, all of the games have featured similar elements.

I think they were involved in some way. From the start, they kept posing the question "how far would you go to save someone you love?", it'd be hard to imagine that in the end that Mono wasn't even aware of who Wander was. Are you trying to suggest through your post that Ico did a bad job of building the relationship between Yorda and Ico? Because I felt a lot more emotion in that game than boy meets pet. It's the same deal with Ico. Yorda is partly responsible for Ico's capture because she's just an extension of her mother. The griffon is the same way, just an extension of the evil there. Difference being though that Yorda isn't being mind controlled where the griffon is constantly being mind controlled. In essence it's just a weak animal. It's not like building a connection with a human being that thinks its just being captured like you and you find out who it really is. And then using that power to "save" Ico once Yorda knew what she was. I could go on for days with the emotional connection. What's the griffon do? Despite being fucked up is able to fly the boy back to the village and then just make a family of griffon babies and never returns.

The attempt was to build on the connection between the wanderer and his horse by doing the whole "feel bad for the animal companion" deal. Except I felt way worse for Argo. And why? Because there was a hell of a lot more symbolism going on than just "oh no my horse!!!". But inevitably why do you feel bad for the griffon when it protects you and gets his tail chopped off? "Oh no my griffon!" there was nothing else besides that. I didn't feel like the griffon had a soul. It was an animal that liked you because you cared about him and it was scared and along the way it overcame it's fear to save you. Maybe it's because I have a nervous dog that does the same shit the griffon does, like hesitating over shit I know it can do easily, that I just got irritated with it. Argo didn't hesitate. Yorda didn't hesitate (when she realized she had the power to save you).

>Are you trying to suggest through your post that Ico did a bad job of building the relationship between Yorda and Ico?
No? And where are you even getting that idea?

And there was plenty of connection with Trico and the boy. At least he's just following the boy because his recently freed mind is just a curious animal, but as the game goes on, it gets more and more attached and concerned about the boy, culminating in the second transmitter room where Trico swallowing the boy almost kills him and Trico desperately tries to revive him. There's a lot more to it when what was done with Ico and Yorda which was just a simple story of a boy and girl overcoming the girl's controlling mother.

Will SotC 2018 Feature Cut Colossi? - An shallow analysis by Anon.
>ARGUMENTS FOR
SotC is a puzzle game. Once you know the solutions, the game loses a lot of its fun. It got ported to PS3 in 2011 so it's still fresh in a lot of peoples' minds. Cut Colossi incentivize returning customers with the promise of some fights that they are guaranteed to not remember how to win.
The remake is called "Shadow of the Colossus". No "Rearmed" or "Ultra Deluxe". This makes it sound more like a reboot which generally have a lot more creative freedom. I think it conveys that they might be open to adding in new content, at least more so than one with a tacky subtitle.
There are dozens of ideas on the cutting room floor. There are 8(?) that were developed to some degree, several being very functional, last-minute cuts.

>ARGUMENTS AGAINST
People hate change and new things. Unless Ueda gets a AA budget for whatever his next game is, it'll be his Kero Blaster in terms of sales.
Room to fuck up. Some of those colossi were cut for good reasons. They could fuck up the execution. I have no clue if Ueda/Kaido are involved at all.
It's cheaper to not develop and playtest them. There are other things to consider: How will this change the pacing? Would 24 colossi be too much? Imagine how much more horse riding and Dormin cutscene there would be. How will this effect the balance of later bosses if the average player is getting more opportunity to scavenge for lizard tails? Risk is a big deal. Risk is the reason they chose to remake SotC instead of making some new game. Risk would be why they don't make new colossi.

>ANON'S ODDS:
67% chance of new colossi
40% chance they fix the fucking UI and make the health bars less intrusive and finally get rid of that intellectually insulting "SWORD" icon
33% chance they make the tutorial/hints more heavy handed
30% chance they justify the hammerspace bow as magic
25% chance they add a "skip the trip" button even on first playthroughs

Don't see why some of the ones that got the axe because of issues making them work couldn't be done now. It's been 12 years since the game was first done, surely they could think of ways to include them that would now, especially with the greater hardware.

>No? And where are you even getting that idea?
>just a simple story of a boy and girl overcoming the girl's controlling mother.

And that's where I'm getting it from because that's literally just the surface of Ico where as all TLG is a story about a nervous animal that loves you. It's literally nothing but an overly cliche boy and his dog story and not even a good one. There was multiple layers to Yorda and Ico where you saw Yorda actually become a human being where you watch a griffon become a loyal dog. You've seen one boy and his dog story you've seen them all. Boy helps dog. Dog loves you. Dog becomes loyal and saves you.

Do I have to explain how much difference there is between Ico and that? There is starting out thinking your the hero. There is a utter sense of looming desperation because Yorda and Ico are so small in comparison to their confines. There is finding comfort is small moments (like the bench). Yorda acting like a human being. Ico only caring about Yorda instead of himself. Ico being self conscious because of his horns finds someone in the world who loves him as he is. Yorda realizing she was in control the whole time. Yorda destroying herself along with the hell her mother built because of what it did to Ico and the other like him. That fucking beach scene. The FUCKING song.
Literally nothing alike.

The remake is made by bluepoint. They do porting work for some sony games. They don't add any content.
>>
>>380420686
There really weren't that many layers to Yorda and Ico, dude. Sure, Yorda pulls an interesting role reversal near the end first on the bride and then in the end, but that's it. There's nothing else before. And the boy is hardly cliché.

Also the games are a lot alike. Did you even play all of them? Companionship is one of the many repeating elements in Ueda's games. In Ico, Yorda was basically just a girl-shaped key. Shadow of the Colossus, Agro was a loyal steed as any other, and valuable asset in the few colossi fights she was allowed to take part in. Meanwhile in the Last Guardian, Trico is not only a friend, but a mobile platform to get around the levels, and an intricate piece in the mystery of the valley.

>Did you even play all of them? Companionship is one of the many repeating elements in Ueda's games.

>somehow this excuses TLG to have a absolutely garbage companion hook in comparison to the other games

Go read what I wrote above since you just don't seem to want to read. The first thing I addressed is how bad the companion factor is in this game. It has none of the emotion. Ueda even said TLG was based off the connection between the Wanderer and Argo. The emotional connection between human and animal companion. He wanted to expand on it. However, a boy and his dog story has little to no emotion when you realize that it plays out the same way every single time. The other relationships were heavily multilayered. And Argo wasn't just a loyal steed and that's it. He represented much more. The biggest part being that you, yourself, were the villain of the story all along.

They're just basic ports. SOTC has removed depth of field and lessened bloom though and it's 720p. Ico was 1080p and I think looked better texture wise but I may be wrong there.

You can emulate both games so I'd do that rather than buy it. When you emulate SOTC you can get up to 60fps and it looks better than the PS3 version.

I read everything, thank you very much. The companionship in TLG is hardly bad, it has plenty of emotion. And just because it's inspired by Wander and Agro doesn't change the fact that companions are a key factor in ALL of the games.

>plays out the same every single time
And? That's the same case with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Yorda and Agro don't react differently in every playthrough, they always go through the same arc, just as Trico. They all have the same layers because they all play out in a predetermined way.

And Wander was hardly a villain. Misguided, yes. But SotC had no real villain. The Dormin keep their promise and even warn Wander of the dangers of his task, while Emon only appears antagonistic but is just an old man doing what he feels is best in stopping an entity was sealed by his ancestors.

Some of the textures were smoothed out. Ico's feet for example were less clunky and blocky looking compared to the PS2 version where they looked quite squarish in shape. Not to mention both versions used their PAL versions which included some AI tweaks, namely Yorda not being completely brainless like she was in the original American PS2 game.

No, it really isn't. The original game was already pretty gritty. Maybe not hyper realistic, but this clearly isn't trying to be any more realistic than the original or The Last Guardian. And so what if some things look darker? That means they're taking into account more realistic lighting techniques for areas where there would be more shadow, that's hardly a bad thing.

Alright it's clear I can't keep this up with you. You've literally misinterpreted everything I've been saying and condensed it down to one post.
I didn't mean game playthroughs dude. I meant that a boy and his dog story is a heavily repeated trope that begins and ends the same way no matter what media it's in.
Yes that does make it bad because its all the story had to offer.

For some reason, I guess, you thought I implied companionship is bad or not to expect it? I likely know these games better than you do so you can drop that. Why would I not know the central concept? The themes based around this concept are different in each game. This is why TLG is such a disappointment to me because it reused just the basic themes from Ico and slapped a bland boy and his dog story to it.

Yes Wander was the antagonist because releasing Dorim would have caused a calamity, Wanderer knew this and did it anyway to save one person. You can be a tragic villain you know. Also who knows what else the Wanderer did to steal the sword and make his way there. All you can do is speculate but it probably wasn't anything noble. He also tossed Argo away. That was his turning point. There was no going back after that. Akin to throwing away the last connection to his humanity.

If you still can't understand what I'm saying, just don't bother replying. I'm out either way.

(And no you can't use "muh game mechanics draws sympathy!' as and excuse for emotional connection. Oh, I use my companion in the puzzle that means I'm supposed to feel bad! The other games didn't rely on this being the ONLY means of connecting with your companion. TLG doesn't get a free pass to do it)
>>
>>380423515
Neither do you with this "they're gunning for the Gears of War artstyle" nonsense. Yes, the original game was gritty because they wanted to make the particle effects feel like you were tussling with giants of stone and fur as debris flew around. The remake is hardly edgy in any way, especially when we've only just gotten a teaser trailer.

Oh don't give me that crap of "you're not as big a fan as I am", you can shove it with that attitude.

Wander was not the antagonist. He can viewed as such, but that was not the designated intention. The game was meant to be completely grey about who was in the wrong. The Dormin are never explained beyond the smallest hint of their power, we don't know if they were evil or if they were sealed because the religious group Emon followed saw them as a threat. Again, they gave Wander warning and all but said "You're going to die if you do this for us" before he sets out.

I get what you're saying just fine, and I just don't agree. Again, don't pull that shitty "I get it better than you" attitude, it's just childish.

That's fine if you didn't like TLG, but that doesn't change the fact that the emotional bond it makes with players is just as strong as the ones seen in Ico and SotC.

>>380424774
I think they would have to. The engine of SOTC messed around with the sound files in the game, if you download them they sound very strange.

Could always be made into some more contextual. By that I mean if you press the call button gently, it'll be a soft call, whereas a hard press will make him yell.

Really, I'd love to see it if you could gather apples or other treats for her and give them as treats just to feel like you're rewarding her after a fight.
>>
>>380424918
Well I disagree. It really just comes down to personal takes, and everyone has their own for that game. But that's kind of a good thing, it means not everyone had the same experience with Trico. Some found him endearing, others frustrating, and even a few probably wholly indifferent regardless of possible glitches or whatever.
>>
>>380424936
Was his call not a face button? Also wasn't that also automatic based on how far he was from you? I know he'd shout when you were far and whistle when he's way the fuck out there.
>>
>>380424774
From the look of the trailer, they appear to have added some richer detail to places, like more moss and other kinds of foliage. But until we can see more, like a demo, it's hard to tell if it's all just cosmetic stuff or if major changes have been made.
>>
>>380424936
That seems unnecessary. The controls are already pretty complex, no need to add more functions.
>>
>>380425073
How can you disagree that the QA wasn't there therefore making it impossible for the 'bonding' to be the same for characters who had all the QA in the world?

You implied what you said was fact, when it's impossible for that to be true. We aren't in a discussion right now I'm just correcting you.

It did seem to depend on how far you were from her, but there were times Wander could call loudly while Agro wasn't even 10 feet away.

Why not? It'd make for a fun bonding with the horse since there's nothing you an really do beyond patting Agro while riding or standing close by.

The only thing I stated to be fact was that plenty of people enjoyed Trico and were able to bond with him.

I couldn't really tell you if I noticed that, I used to just mash the call and kick buttons all the time. Made me feel like I was being cheeky in between colossi.

Hope they give it a good box cover. Even if Ueda isn't in charge in any way, maybe get him to draw it like he did the covers for Ico and the original SotC.

Water levels in games scare the shit out of me. The water serpent colossus is where my replays sometimes end just because it freaks me out so much.
>>
>>380425790
That's a weird pull.

Also it woulda been cool if while searching for a colossi, that pointing your sword light straight to the ground beneath you in a certain area would trigger an underground one.

Someone said that the worm that was cut was apparently a rogue element that could attack from anywhere, though I never recall reading such a detail other than it requiring a vast arena to house it and avoid its attacks.

In any case, it would be cool if they could make it now you can tackle any of the colossi (except Malus) in any order. Given that the order didn't have a correlation to the plot, it would at least mean having some freedom, especially for returning players who already know the order like the back of their hand. And if by some slim chance we do get extra colossi added in, that could allow for some neat bonus if you defeat them prior to tackling Malus and ending the game.
>>
>>380395803
I'm ready for a more stable framerate. I don't even care if it's 30. I just don't want it dropping. and also less jank. I couldn't beat the time trial for the third guy because Wander would always drop his shit when trying to stab his gut
>>
From the perspective of a consumer, I question why this of all things is being done. The game is on both PS2 and PS3 so Sony could easily have released it as a PS2 classic or on PS Now (which I realise sucks, yes) if they wanted it on PS4. Maybe they're just reusing TLG assets?

However as someone who absolutely fucking loves Shadow of the Colossus and has it in their top 10 games of all time, I think the one issue the original and the PS3 port have is dated graphics. They hurt the presentation which is vitally important to what the game delivers IMO, so a remake with modern graphics could improve the game in one of the few places I feel it's has faults. I am absolutely on board for an even better version of SotC.
>>
>>380425375
Better idea: give the horse more interactions. Idle animations like it'll put its head down next to Mono, drinking water, playing with the incoming waves on the beach, affectionately nudging you if you call it repeatedly while it's right next to you, close its eyes if you shine your light at her.
>>
>>380426485
PS3 version was locked at 30 with only occasional dips, but not quite as low as what the PS2 original could fall to which sometimes got to be around 10 in some cases. Still, a remake with 60fps would be nice, but one can only be hopeful given details are scarce.
>>
>>380427074
It's 30fps.
>>
>>380427003
What's wrong with also giving her treats?
>>
>>380427217
The remake? The trailer probably is, but who knows what the final game will be since it's not coming out until next year.
>>
>>380426963
It wouldn't look great as a ps2 game running on a ps4. Getting the feeling that someone at sony wants this game to always look the best it could possibly be. I mean it was one of the few games that used 3D on ps3 too, they want this game to be the spearhead of whatever experimental graphical enhancement they decide to try.

That's what I'm getting from this. Also now that they're going for more user friendly hardware from now on, maybe they want a version that will be playable on everything they make from here on out.
>>
>>380427304
Your optimism is beyond naive.
>>
>>380427304
Don't forget that we have cases where you can change how you want your game run vs look now. I would put money on it that they'll add that to this game if it doesn't already run 60 while looking good (looking at last guardian, I'm not optimistic).
>>
>>380427514
Hardly naïve when the game's details are virtually nonexistent and it's not even finished.
>>
>>380427514
The original God of War trailer as in God of War, not God of War had a framerate around 30 when it was shown off last year, but this year, they showed 60fps gameplay on stage, so it's possible.
>>
>>380427606
It's a playstation game that looks better than The Last 20fps Guardian. You're an idiot.
>>
>>380427564
I think it'll turn better optimized than TLG, which was just the culmination of years of trouble. For one, Blue Point are pretty good at making games play in a stable format, so as you said there is a chance it could have options similar to Nioh (30 and more "movie quality" or 60fps for the best experience).
>>
>>380427714

Please explain in detail why it's impossible for SotC to run at 60fps. I bet you can't.

And I know you're gonna gonna try to spin this on Sony, but we're not talking about Sony. I wanna know why it's technically impossible to run SotC at 60fps
>>

Because the PS4 is a piece of shit and the developers put graphics over gameplay.
