hey that dosent mean prime 4 could be bad, odds are that it will be pretty good. they got prime 2 wrong, try again and go wrong again, changing directions maybe they got it right this time

1st metroid prime was the only good one. I hope 4 doesnt have all the hand holding of 2 and 3

prime 3 is fine

prime 2 is the shit one, who thought of ammo in a metroid game.

1 was excellent, 2 was good, 3 was dude we have motion controls now!

>>
>>380358312
It was good, though. Just not as good as the others.

Ultimately I find myself liking it a bit more when I notice the increased pace and stuff like all beams combining into one, which makes me think it was trying to be slightly more like the 2D games.

Although I admit that it could have been better. The ship visor was woefully underutilized and I feel like it wasn't clear enough what it could do and why I kept getting ship missile restores and expansions... they were because you can Air-to-surface missile a few open areas they don't tell you you can, most notably bigger enemies.

I liked 3 more than 2.

The whole trilogy was excellent, though, OP is a faggot.
>>
>>380358892
I found the beam ammo funny because it was pretty much a pointless system.

Shoot boxes and/or enemies with the beam opposite the one you want ammo for.

Also Dark Beam and Light Beam were LITERALLY just the plasma and ice beams, right down to freezing and immolating shit.
>>
>>380358892

>>
>>380358312

And if you want to do any amount of damage to bosses, you'll have to use either missiles or element beams. And during boss fights, both of those are in fairly limited supply.

I found Skyward Swords' controls completely unworkable. Metroid Prime 3 was smooth as butter.

>>
>>380363419

I've fought Quadraxis a few times without the Dark Suit and every time it was excellent. The health refills mean your health drains fast enough to keep you on your toes, while still making it reasonably possible to win if you continuously deal damage.

>>
>>380361190
Get fucked pleb
>>
>>380363826
yeh but if you're going in with the dark suit and you've actually been collecting energy tanks you can just tank all it's hits and still win
sure it has that bigass laser that deals 2 energy tanks worth of damage if it hits but if you can actually refill them quickly it lessens the impact

Emperor Ing was much better in that regard, aside from his second phase being essentially a pinata, when that sucker hit you, it hurt
>>
>>380363852
I was referring to >>380359508
which you btfo, that point was garbage and ammo obviously balances against overuse, but beam ammo is easier to get than missile ammo if you actually took the time to blow up some crates or fodder enemies.
>>
prime 1's layout is faithful to the 2d games in that areas overlap but there's minimal repetition with mandatory backtracking. echoes' is tedious.
>>
>>380361190
I'd love a hybrid system where you can dynamically stack beams but still have to switch between what beams you want to stack at what moment
>>
>>380363879

In Prime 1 if you need to backtrack, you either have the opportunity to take a new route there or have some new powerup that completely changes the way you traverse those old areas. In Prime 2 it's a simple retread with very little changed, and you always have to take the long way there.

Prime 3 was at most "Good" because of a few simple reasons:

1. Samus isn't alone, there are multiple protags and Federation presence

Prime 2 wasn't a bad game by any means, but it was vastly inferior to the first in just about every way. The ammo system, lack of weapon diversity and tacked-on multiplayer just didn't meet the expectations set by the original.
>>
>>380366087
The bog wasn't bad, it was an obviously ruined area but it was still filled with life and interesting scenery and actually had plenty of variation

it was a good execution of a mediocre concept, same with the phenandra drifts (which at it's core is still a fucking ice world)
>>
>>380365972

It's because of that the game feels lesser. They are elements that could have easily been left out and made the game that much better with no effort.

I don't buy that Prime 4 will be anything but Metroid Prime 3.5 or worse because of all the shit we got with Other M and Federation Force.

>Combat in Prime 2 was far better than it was in Prime 1.
Not even close. Ammo ruined the flow of combat and there were practically only two beams. Also, there was nothing interesting like being able to freeze enemies and then blast them with a stream of lava. The missile + beam combos were insanely fun in MP1.

>Also, there was nothing interesting like being able to freeze enemies and then blast them with a stream of lava.
How about freezing enemies and shooting a fucking sun at them?

Beam ammo is a total non-issue, there's an abundance of it during exploration from all the crates and all the scripted battles have little enemies to pick off for extra ammo.

When I was a kid, Hunters' opening blew my fucking mind that it was on that little tiny handheld. The actual game wasn't nearly as good, but the cutscenes were great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wJMs6Zqcxs

One thing I loved about the bosses was that, despite the fact that they were basically cut and paste bosses, the cutscenes made them all feel so different. At first Samus is wary of them, but with each following encounter in the cutscenes, she's more confident, more sure, and more badass, because even if it is ostensibly harder, she's still knows she's got the edge.

For folks who haven't played Hunters and won't because the online portion doesn't work anymore (the best part of the game), here it is.

Hunters had seriously some of the best presentation Samus has had in 3D.

Right, so if it never "dips low", then it's a pointless mechanic. There was nothing wrong with infinite beam ammo, it was a pointless addition that only served to fragment the experience.

>>380367271

A mouse IS motion you mongoloid. There's literally no difference between aiming a wiimote, rested on your knee, at the TV, and moving a mouse on your thigh.

On A CONSOLE, the wiimote is so much more accurate with such a higher degree of reflex for aiming that it's ludicrous to me that anyone would still go for twin stick.

It's like people bitching about not being able to go above B in Splatoon when they turn off gyro. Like no shit. You're completely giving up on being able to move smoothly in curves or reflex aim.

Holy fuck, you cannot possibly be this autistic.

A mouse is not a fucking motion device you retarded nigger. You have complete control over a mouse because you not only make precision movements but your hand is resting on a pad which gives you better accuracy. That's like saying that firing a sniper rifle while prone is "the same" as firing a sniper rifle while standing up and holding it. You cannot be this fucking stupid.

Does an infrared mouse coordinate its movements with a light bar underneath it? No. Because it's not a fucking motion device. EVERY mouse is a pointing device because it detects two-dimensional motion that is relative to the surface it's being used on. That isn't how a fucking motion device like a lightgun works. You're embarrassing yourself.

Resting your mouse on a pad is not significantly different from resting your arm on your leg or the armrest of the chair while using the wiimote. Regardless, a mouse IS a fucking motion device. It is not a stick, it does not register tracking of something small and sublte embedded into a controller, it registers the motion of the device in relation to something else, whether that be a pad, table surface, or leg, by using an optical light which is moved by adjusting the position of your hand. The difference compared to a wiimote is fucking minimal other than the fact that, rather than tracking the differences in a surface, it's tracking the angle and positioning of the lights in your "sensor" (which is misnamed because the sensor is actually in the wiimote).

However, THAT WAS NEVER THE ARGUMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE, you fucking fishbrain. The argument was that the wiimote was an order of magnitude better a control scheme for a shooter than a stick is, because it has greater freedom of motion and angle tracking, and can make quick changes in direction without that dead zone in the middle.

Actually dark beam was created by the luminoth
the same geniusses that brought us the rocket powered elevator, the bug killing robot that can be controlled by bugs and the energy sucker with a reverse switch.
