The scaleprints that fossilized were located on places that most paleontologists speculated were featherless, but this still doesn't disprove that T-rex had feathers, as most birds have scales/skin in the exact same places.

Funny enough, the new T.Rex like monster in MHW looks very much like what a T.Rex would be when it came to feather coating, as the chinese cousin of Tyrannosaurus (Yutyrannus) had feathers in similar places.

To quote the paper itself:
