Mario. Focus on solid game mechanics with interesting puzzles with little forcus on story. The game gets progressively more fun over time because the mechanics of depth that allows you to explore interesting challenges so each level is fresh and fun.

i don't know. mario has a lovable design. feels perfect for platforming. he has tons of unique and well designed enemies that are easily likable along with other characters in the universe. the mix of all the weird shit like flying raccoon power ups. it is literally impossible to explain it in a way that would make you understand from my point of view. i just think mario games are enjoyable as fuck. literally every single one is just fun. great sound effects, great stages, great challenging stages, all gameplay, except for the RPGs which even do the story quite well.

Mario games used to be fucking amazing, pioneers of their time. Even today, SMB3, World, and 64 are all classics that are still masterpieces in my mind... though there's been so many clones and platformers since then that copied mario that people playing them for the first time now wouldn't be able to appreciate them.

But back when mario 64 came out it was the ONLY 3D platformer of its kind (that wasn't complete unplayable garbage). Same with Mario World, back then having like 70+ levels was seen as amazing, mind blowing.

Nowadays they're mediocre boring shit,but back in the day they were pioneers of a generation.
