I'm slightly concerned about Samus Returns. I think style-wise it could look better, the fact that Mercury "Castlevania: Mirror of Fate" Steam is developing it has me a bit worried, and so far the platforming looked a bit bland.

That being said, I personally hope MP4 isn't the same as the previous games. It should have both a first person mode and a third person mode, with the ability to switch between both. Samus also should be able to run and use all her skills.

As much as I'm glad there's a new 2D Metroid, I agree that they're probably end up making something that's far away from the original. Ignoring all the shit with AM2R, I am happy. I think Samus Returns looks fine, and while there are some casual elements it seems like it will be fun.

The problem is, that's the only major story point people actually want to see a conclusion to. The idea that Samus might become truly freelance or might have to fight with the Federation for one game. And while Metroid as a series shouldn't focus on bounty hunting or stealth missions, it would set up the opportunity to have a Metroid game start off with Samus maybe going on trial and then escaping a Federation prison.

But the end of Fusion already pretty much explained it away. Adam saying 'Someone in the Federation will understand.' This is the Metroid way of basically closing the story. Samus will go back to the Federation, a few guys will chastise her and then she'll leave on bad terms. Basically the same as she already was.

Its respect of the player's intelligence by letting the player figure everything out themselves and explore pretty much everywhere without NPC help? Though with the way you have the ability to set notes on the map and that scanner ability to reveal the map around you, I'm pretty optimistic. If people really need stuff to help them through a simple Metroid game, that's fine, but PLEASE make it optional.

Personally I find Metroid incredibly satisfying to replay. Mistakes are punished harshly, which makes trying to speedrun it an total adrenaline rush.

I'm very skeptical about this, mainly because AM2R did so many things right and that trailer made it look kinda bland on a visual level. Might be good hopefully, not holding out for much but maybe it'll pave the way for more 2D Metroids.

FUCK YES. IT'S BEEN SO LONG. SO FUCKING LONG. I've waited such a long time for this I don't even give a fuck it was just a teaser. That they're making it, and actually held their word after all the fucking teasing is all I care about. Metroid. On Switch. Prime 4. Looks really great so far, just don't fuck it up and I'm happy and keep making Metroid games in the future. 2D and 3D.

I would like to see something a little different too. I've said it before and I've said it again but more of a focus on horror in a first person "prime" style Metroid game would be all I ever want. I'm excited for Prime 4 but I'm cautiously optimistic. It could easily all go to shit.

I've always thought Metroid II was a great game. It utilized the limitations of the Game Boy to great effect. I always love it when developers do what they can to work with the limitations of the platform they're making a game for.

It was never the worst in the series. It was better than Metroid I when it came out. And as time went on, it remained one of the best Metroid games. I'd still say only Super, Zero and Prime 1 surpass it.

The 3DS game is already taking cues from Other M with a counter attack and cinematic takedowns. I always loved that shit in MOM even if it was a mediocre game otherwise.

There's a lot of bureaucracy and prototyping at Nintendo before a production starts and makes it to a graphical state where it can be shown off to the public.
