Instead of acting like human beings who care about other people and have their own personalities molded from a story it's just "I AM STRONK WOMAN FACK YO".
Writers try to shoehorn in a strong female character simply for the fact that they're strong and female.
A character becomes shit when there is no substance to them and their interactions with other characters doesn't fit with the rest of the game.

It's more about how they are written than anything, the problem is people write shit characters. If they made the character in question well developed, they would be liked. People make the whole strong woman tokenism bullshit to push a message instead of making a character with likeable traits.

Write your character out first and foremost, give them flaws and personality and they will be liked, if you force it, it does not turn out well and it is blatant pandering which puts people off and causes them to have animosity towards the developers.
