I have a PC but it would cost a bit to go to 4k and the XBOX one x would be a cheap alternative, but then again I could easily upgrade to consistent fps on high graphics which the xbone probably can only do on a handful of stuff. Remember that games released for XB are configured perfectly for the console. Therefore, you should get some incredible-looking games with the XB1X. For example, build a rig with the exact specs as the vanilla XB1. I dare you to run a game on it looking nearly as good as the same game on the XB.

In isolation, it's fantastic hardware at a very low price for what you're getting.

In context of what its competitors offer though, it's very expensive, has far fewer games and almost no exclusives.

I just can't see a reason to own one over even a base PS4, mid range gaming PC or Switch if you're using a 1080p TV, or that PC or PS4Pro if you've got a 4K set, unless you only play AAA multiplats and really care about an imperceptible difference in image quality.

yes. over 70% of the pro's games are 1440p. the xbox is already achieving native 4k visuals in even the latest demanding titles like the new ac (ac titles are always demanding) and the new metro. iirc the difference between 1440p and 4k on a 4k screen is like comparing 720p (or lower) to 1080p i.e. it will look like a washed out, blurry mess.

When a console is created, devs have a very specific set of hardware they can build a game around. They can optimize lighting effects, resource allocation, RAM usage, etc. etc. all based on a set of known hardware, and thus pull the best possible experience out of that hardware, during development.

On PC, you have innumerable variables, so much of the time, fine tuning is left to the hardware guys (AMD, Nvidia, Intel), though driver fixes, but they have neither the time or resources to optimize for each individual game.

If you build a 1:1 PC with equivalent insides to its console counterpart, the console will be able to achieve better framerate, at equivalent or better settings, every single time.

2- I enjoy certain "exclusive" games for each
3- I think console games are "comfier"
4- There's something about playing with casual friends and trophies

That's my point, not every game is as demanding as TW3 or AC Unity completely maxed out, hence running 4k60 isn't hard for the vast majority of games even on lower end hardware.
Even notoriously-poorly optimized games like pic related could run at 4k30 on a 970 with proper settings management.

If you turn everything down, sure. A relative toaster can run X game at 4k60

But the point of 4k is to see as much beautiful detail as possible. The only setting you should turn down that I can think of at the moment, when using 4k, is anti aliasing. Having a 4k monitor, and turning down the settings until they're potato tier is like using fine China and silverware to eat a ham sandwich.

At least the X.B.O.X is a significant visual improvement over xb1, but you're just choosing to see the worst the game has to offer, in more detail
