No. G.U is great on its own right, so you can play it without issue. IMOQ does add to the experience since there are alot of nods and references in terms of characters, but they're not so in-your-face that they'll disturb you when playing G.U if you haven't played IMOQ

The combat in IMOQ was god fucking awful. G.U had its issues, but if you're going to complain about the combat, then don't try and encourage a fucking IMOQ remake in the same breath. The very first image ever released was a still of Haseo, which was like, okay, protag, and fucking 'Zombie Kite'. Speculation was crazy. People didn't know what was going on. Then the E3 2005 trailer came out and had that fight between them.
