How atmospheric and dreamlike is the first Evil Within? Is it more like Silent Hill or Resident Evil?
It's basically RE4 with some Silent Hill type enemy designs. It's not particularly atmospheric or dreamlike, it's very bombastic and actiony. Within the first 30 minutes you're driving through a city that's collapsing/twisting like inception, complete with explosions and shit.
Its Resident Evil 4 in a Silent Hill type setting.

it's literally between both. So much that it didn't pleased neither pre enstablished fanbase.
RE4 fans dislike the game because of the too much stealth /resources management
SH fans dislike it because the game had too much action
As for the atmosphere it's more of a "clusterfuck of ideas" than dreamlike but that's exactly what the game aimed for as it's original title (Psychobreak) suggests.

that's just the beggining tho, after that the game gets fucking calm for a long time. I would say it has a wide range of different atmospheres than maintaining the same one through the whole game.

it's a RE4 clone, that plays like a TLOU clone, while also having obligatory "level up" and "crafting" systems of numerous games. Don't bother.
