Which is better?

Only played the two regular DS versions, but I hear.

I'd say 1 has the better story, cast and music while 2 has the better gameplay. However now with the two new versions, they're both apparently about the same.

Literally what I came into the thread to say. That being said, I think I prefer 2 over 1.

Well the gameplay point's redundant according to other anon's reports, so it's almost entirely based on your taste. I prefer 1 myself.
1 definitely feels closer to home if you're coming in from SMT/Persona.

2 has better gameplay
1 has better EVERYTHING else
