I think a lot of people are missing the fact that the animations are also the reason why this game is being perceived so well. Most mario games, especially non plattformers have had pretty basic animations that just do the job (look at paper mario, mario party, mario sports etc), but this game has animations on par with pixar or dreamworks at least.

The game looks gorgeous but I fucking hate Rabbids so much, they're so ugly to me. They're compared to Minions a lot but at least Minions have a capacity to be cute, however small that may be. Rabbids are both unappealing and ugly, I can't stand it, unless I can have a party of only Mario characters I don't want this game.

They'd be hated either way. They were made to be annoying so you'd want to beat the everloving shit out of them. That was when they were the antagonists of a 3d platformer, but now they're Ubisoft's mascot and pretty much have to ape other series aesthetics to be anyway likable.

The fact that they killed Rayman for them is just the cherry on top.
