It's the same fucking game. They even just did a rerelease last gen.

How did the entire audience not riot when they realized it was just a remake and not a sequel? I was livid
>>
Whoa, extra blur? Fuck yeah!
>>
>>380220872

I am excited for this, but also wondering, is this a full blown remake, or just a HD texture pack. It seems incredibly close to the original version.
>>
>>380221126
I dont give a shit, i just want to play this on the next gen.
>>
Was this running on the pro?
>>
I already have this game. I just can't play it because my PS2 is broke and Sony says they don't believe anybody would want backwards compatibility despite constantly re-selling two generation old games.
>>
>>380220872
I love SotC and all, but why?

I'd be up for it if they reimagined all the bosses but this is pretty lame.
>>

>>
>Are you excited to play a game that was released 12 fucking years ago and already remastered for PS3, but remastered again with even better GRAFIX

No, not really. And I thought Nintendweebs were starved for games.

According to the artbook 'it was defeated by leading it from water to land', so the location of the battle was near a watery area. As stated above, Spider's weak spots were on its legs and after Wander had hit all six of them, it would have 'destroyed its posture' and caused it to fall. The player would then run up to where Spider fell down and be able to jump into his open mouth and stab its major sigil(s). This probably had to be repeated at least once.
The player also had to evade its legs for they were used to attack. In the OPM demo of the game, Wander had the ability to swing his sword sideways while on horseback. This was the main way to target its legs.
>>

These games weren't bad but I wish they had more of a varied gameplay other than:
>ride horse to boss location
>grab onto boss and stab the glowing part
>teleport back to the main hub
>repeat

Kind of an overrated game desu. I'd be okay if they remade it while adding more interesting shit and a few more bosses, but I doubt they'll do it.

This game has no possibility of a sequel, and it had a game taking place in the same universe called "The Last Guardian" that took like 10 years to release and this game released far too early for it's style. I have no issue playing this again.

I honestly don't see the point apart from milking money out of people with nostalgia. They already rereleased this last generation on the PS3. The least they could have done was made it for PC or something, but instead they opt to have it on the PS4, too. Sonybros never change.

I actually really enjoyed the cinematic experience of the PS2. When you climb onto a flying colossus' wing and stab it while the screen fills with black blood and the frame rate drops to 10. Not even kidding.

If sony took a hint from microsoft then they would give backwards compatibility. But it looks like they want to milk the remastered bullshit.

>The artbook says, 'It hung from the ceiling, and you'd defeat it by dropping it to the floor'. That, coupled with early sketch designs, indicate that Monkey was fought in a cave-like area where it would hang on to stalactites. It is likely that Monkey would either attack the player by letting stalactites fall, or by dropping itself on the player. There is also the possibility, that Wander had to shoot the stalactites Monkey was hanging on to make it drop.

>In the screenshot of Monkey, it's shown hanging using its two limbs. In early sketches, the colossus is seen holding on to stalactites with one, two and four limb(s).

>Roc was fought in a desert-like landscape, instead of a lake as with Avion. According to the artbook, 'Roc. You'd shoot it down with the bow.', meaning that the bow and arrow were vital to defeating this colossus, similiar to Phalanx. Because Agro can be seen in several screenshots, it is likely that she was necessary for defeating Roc by chasing it, again similiar to the battle with Phalanx.

Sirius2.jpg
122KB, 800x600px
>Sirius was a relatively small colossus, about the same size as Celosia and Cenobia (though a little taller than both), resembling a giant boar or hog. Unlike the previously mentioned colossi, Sirius had relatively no body armor and an exposed back with fur on it. This indicates that its weak spot was constantly exposed during the battle.

>Sirius was, also similiar to Celosia and Cenobia, very fast and - possibly - very aggresive. It had to be defeated while riding Agro, as it would chase the player at high speed. Because it had virtually no body armor, the main obstacle of fighting this colossus was not removing it, but simply getting on its back. The artbook gives a clue about how Sirius had to be defeated, as it says that "rocks meant to be used in the fight with Sirius", with a picture of a Stonehenge-like monument. It can be assumed that Sirius would chase Wander, while on horseback, and the player had to ride through this monument. As a result, Sirius would get stuck and the player could stab its major sigil(s). This monument can still be found in the released version of the game, at quadrant G7; thus, it can be assumed that that's the location Sirius was fought.

its hard to describe but its one of those games where you get kind of immersed in the controls.

>>
>>380222368
One can hope. They had roughly 50 or so designs in concept, and at least 30 actually programmed (though not all were complete before being pulled).

Even if the main game is the same 16, I'd be fine as long as you could search out another 12 or whatever. Maybe even allow for the player to tackle the colossi in any order, not like the plot hinged on the order it went with.
>>
>>380226459

Maybe, maybe not. Remakes were a thing even back around the time of the PS2. Maybe not as obnoxiously so as now, but still.

Even then, a full on remake was rumored before the game was even a year old. Some even thought Ueda was going to make it as his first PS3 game to give everyone a better experience from the PS2 one.

No shilling here, no one is telling you to go out and buy it. The people who are buying it are doing so because they loved the original that's it, I'm 100% sure everyone in this thread understand why people wouldn't buy it.

it really is very unlikely that the cut content will make it in anon. i don't think it's cynical. if the new game was being developed in house i might not rule it out but even then it would be quite a lot of extra work for a product that is unlikely to generate much revenue.

The ones pictured were likely somewhat complete, or at least modeled and probably given a basic pattern for testing. This is likely why many got dropped because they couldn't think of a satisfying pattern. Hell, several were reportedly cut because they were too similar to others, so they voted on which ones to keep for both gameplay and visual distinction.

With over 10 years to think of new ideas, hopefully they can implement some of the cut monsters, even as just bonus fights to give this remake more oomph than just "it's now current gen looking"
>>
I'm expecting them to revamp the controls

SOTC's control scheme is perfectly fine once you get the hang of it, but games like Assassin's Creed have standardized how controls in third-person perspective games should be and you'd be a fool to deviate from that.

>The Eye of the Colossus is an item that, while semi-functional in the Preview version, was removed from the final game. It allows players to witness battles through the eyes of the Colossus they are fighting. It is, however, buggy and unfinished. Two pieces of unused text describing the item also remain within the game.

>That is the “Eye of the Colossus”…
>By using it near a colossus, thou shalt be able to see what the colossus sees…

>This item is activated by pressing R3 on the controller. Pikol discovered this by accident in March 2010. It works well for some of the colossi such as colossus #1, #4, #5, #6, #13 and #15 but for others it is clearly unfinished as when the colossi move the camera sinks down into their bodies then back out again. You have to be near the colossus to activate it and when the colossus moves out of range you will hear a low 'beep' sound when you press R3 indicating the colossus is out of range. It has no function at all with colossus #3 but why is a mystery.
>You can even activate the Eye of the Colossus before the colossus is activated (again if you can get close enough). You see a single stationary frame of what the colossus sees and then watch it come to life from its point of view. There is no camera control while using the item but you can zoom in and out with R2.
>Another cool feature is you can activate the Eye of the Colossus when the colossus is dying, so you can watch it fall to its death from its point of view. By pressing R3 again you can watch the death scene from Wander's point of view to get a unique perspective instead of the usual in game death scenes. You have full control of Wander as the colossus is dying unlike in the normal death scenes where Wander is locked.

>>
>>380230910
It's based around the semi-sound idea that backwards compatibility is more work/hardware cost for no monetary gain since you make basically nothing from last gen's games. The fact that it might sell more consoles also isn't super appealing, because consoles cost more to produce than they make back, the only revenue comes from games, and there's a (possibly correct, possibly incorrect) assumption that either A. the people brought in won't buy a lot of new games because they still have old favorites and/or B. The number of new customers you get from having backwards compatibility is so small that even if they DO buy a decent number of games it still doesn't make back the cost of designing for backward compatibility, since it makes the console you're already selling at a loss MORE expensive to produce or costs you money in man-hours to produce a good emulator, which is a momumentally difficult task for some consoles.

On the flip side remastering an old game makes a lot more sense- if you still have the base assets upgrading them isn't as hard as creating a game from scratch, you don't have to have designers creating new rules, because they already exist, etc. It's low-effort, and if you hit a younger demographic that missed the first release you can get a decent chunk of sales on top of the superfans that will rebuy the game anyway just to have it.

>game gives no indication where trico can or can't go
>only method of finding out is just climbing on him and testing
Thrilling Trial and Error gameplay. There's no "mechanic" in hopping on Trico and then watching a scripted scene of him jumping over a wall, it's just "read the game developer's mind because we couldn't think of a good way to signpost a way out of this area".

TLG was a huge disappointment with terrible puzzles. They clearly decided that story and presentation were more important than gameplay while the other two Team Ico games had an excellent balance.

Anyone who breaks a controller in a rage is a retard, simple fact.

Not him but there's actually a puzzle really early on that gives the player a great grasp on what kind of distances Trico can jump. The player cannot make it past that part of the game without making this realisation.

The animations of everyone but Wanda are the same and the scale + animations of Agro and the Colossi are the same.

It's a remaster with really fancy new graphics.

If they were developing the entire engine from scratch, which would be impossible for this team, they would just be making a sequel.

Modders have 'remade' games more drastically than this, I don't get what's so hard to grasp. I'm getting really annoyed at the people hyping up a cinematic trailer like this. It looks good but every sign points to remaster than proper remake. The game didn't even need a remake, it plays fine.

TLG under preformed so they're rushing out this. Simple as that.

more advanced and elaborate simulations of things are more difficult to implement, so things that used to be easy (such as being able to shoot ropes on any wooden surface and climb them in the original Thief) is removed from later sequels due to "technical limitations"

you might think this sounds retarded, because it is, but that's how this industry is
>>
>>380233494
It's still more of a remake than a remaster though. A remaster is just the same exact game with its assets prettied up. This is the game in a whole new engine and from the looks of Wander's movements, some changes to the animation/physics.

Even then, is it that hard to believe they could be doing it all from scratch? The guys who made Sly 4 did the PS3 ports, and I don't think many expected them to go from porting to a full on original creation.

Honestly this doesn't need to happen. The scrapped Colossi were really just combined or integrated into the other existing Colossi. i find that a really spurious definition of the difference. i see lighting and increased detail above all in the new game. should that not be considered something 'lost/unable to be done with previous hardware'?

if the game plays the same, and everything looks the same, and the devs were working from old assets, i can't see why you'd call it a remake. can we really class this and the ffvii remake in the same category? it seems irresponsible to do so considering so many people in this very thread seem to think that gives them a licence to wildly excessive expectations for added features.

Because they had to in order for the gameplay to not look totally weird. Ico and TLG both have the same thing going on but since Ico and TLG aren't trying to climb on giants going ape shit, it wasn't as drastic. But the instant animation switches are in all of the Team Ico games.

nigga you literally go on to say a simple port job takes programming. if the threshold for remake is simply that you have to 'program some stuff' then a PAL version of an NTSC game would be afucking remake.

the point is the end product. i understand that a full recreation of a game *from scratch* with no ported assets whatsoever might blur the line somewhat if you want to take the creative scale of the endeavour into the account, but it is clear that this remaster falls far short of that scenario.

Mono doesn't have horns, and she and Agro find the reborn Wander and go up to the garden. From there, who knows. Ueda established a connection for fun, but never really meant to go any further, at least not in the "there's a bigger story yet to be told" kind of deal. Some think Mono becomes the Queen, while others just assume Wander got out and started a race of horny kids.

>>380237005
Yes, Agro survives.

The girl at the end of the game, Mono, takes care of the original heir to the tradition of the child with the horns that Ico is in the titular game. I guess sometime long after the Wanderer is baby-ized , the dudes from the end manage to retrieve the girl and the baby from the garden and they begin the fucked up tradition of sealing away the horned child in Ico.

I have no idea how TLG plays into the lore yet.

>>
>>380239795
It's both. Goddamn why are you so bent up over it being called a remake? This is far more a remake than when people were calling previous remasters remakes since none of those used new engines whatsoever.
>>
>>380239882

because the only things being 'remade' are cosmetic details. that's a fucking remaster.
>>
>>380239968
And other numerous details like the character models and the game world. Nigga, they didn't just drop it into some magical engine that instantly made everything for them. Even if they did drop in the assets, they would still have to make shit for whatever wasn't compatible with the engine or didn't transfer 100% perfectly. There is far more work under the hood than just a paintjob.
>>
>>380239882

>This is far more a remake than when people were calling previous remasters remakes since none of those used new engines whatsoever.

how do you not understand this. it does not matter if a new engine is used. that is an incidental detail that does not directly bear on whether 'remaking' is being done. the difference lies in what you are changing about the product. if all you're changing is the overall fidelity of the appearance without redesigning things substantially, it's not a remake.
>>
>>380239796
>No nigger you were with that "they remade FF9 and KH from complete scratch"
And they are remasters despite that you dumbass.

How is it possible to be this stupid?
>>
>>380240198
Why not? It's far more than just making the original game's engine prettier. They're creating more details, and adding things that weren't there before or even possible of being done without overtaxing the original hardware. It's hardly wrong to call this a remake compared to the numerous times people called the PS3 collection remakes.

>And other numerous details like the character models and the game world.

cosmetic.

details.

>Nigga, they didn't just drop it into some magical engine that instantly made everything for them

i never said this. i'm fully aware that porting things takes work and i'm fully aware that old assets may need to be reworked substantially to cooperate with changes in lighting and all sorts of other shit, even without adding extra visible detail. but that doesn't make the game a remake. it actually undermines your argument to go on about how porting things requires programming because it shows that the difference between a port and a remake isn't in the fact that one requires programming and the other doesn't.

any software ported to any different platform will require some level of work. depending on the difference between the platforms this could be a large or a small task. however mere reproduction, no matter how laborious it is, is a port. not a remake, not a remaster. what takes it further is the extent of any modifications you make to the end product itself. new lighting, nicer rocks and more naturalistic animations do not cut it. remakes are a whole new creative interpretation of the brief.

>>

>>
>>380240906
What the fuck ever, it's still far more of a remake than other remasters. It's hardly hurting anyone to call it a remake when there is some work actually being done in this unlike the remasters which are just making the game recognize an entirely new system and nothing else.
>>
>>380241025
No they did not. And I read everything just fine, but please keep acting like a retard making shit up because that's all you can do now.

It was fucking confirmed by Nomura that they used retail copies and did basically what Blue Point has done; ripping up the data and putting it into the new systems.
>>
>>380237764
how did last guardian tie into sotc? haven't played it yet
>>
>>380241349
So far there appears to be no direct connection beyond thematic stuff like characters with horns (trico and the knights) and the style of dress like the boy and his people being similar to that of Ico and Wander's. The main villain does not appear to be related to either the Dormin or the Queen, though they have some traits you might notice are similar.
>>
>>380241292
>No they did not.
They have always said they lost assets for all their old games, and talked about how painful it was remaking the games for Steam and the modern Playstations. But yeah keep up your fucking iles.

>>
>>380241520
No, I'm not. They lost the assets yes, but they used existing copies to make the ports. The "painful" stuff was getting that shit to work because it's not like you can just take a retail game and open it up like a car hood to tinker with the engine. There's far more to it than that, and especially with something that's completely coded to a retail disc is going to be tougher than say having the master CD that had the last update of the game before it left beta.

Certainly wouldn't do any harm. If you do have a PS3, the collection is pretty nice if only because they used the later PAL/JAP versions that had some tweaks. Granted, PS3 SotC has some minor issues because of the increased framerate, so it can be a deal breaker for some.

In all fairness, they far from perfect. All of the Team Ico games have a weird feel to them that isn't going to be enjoyed by everyone. TLG as a recent example feels a bit clunky with how the boy can go from 0 to 80 with a flick of the stick, and trying to edge him on a ledge is really tricky because doing it gently sees him always stuttering on a small incline. Still, I never minded the layouts and how they played overall.

Also, >>380236778 where's your argument? Why have you just been cowering in silence this whole time? All two remaining brain cells overworked?
>>
>>380220872
not buying it a third time

>>380250785
>if you don't respond to someone, you're a coward
Way to assume bullshit, kiddo. Must be rough having a damaged brain like yours that you obsess over an argument you weren't a part of. Unless of course you're the same guy, which still means you're brain damaged because you need to continue the argument when it had pretty much ended.

Seriously, get some help bub.

Any comparison pictures with the original?
The resolution is naturally considerably better. But I swear the original already looked pretty good.

I hope it has new interesting content. Because visually I am not exactly blown away.
If it's just the visuals then I likely wouldn't even buy it even though I love the game.

>>380251215
It's clearly in some new engine, but with a lot of the AI and animations ported over. Who knows if anything will be in there or not. One can hope, but it's only reasonable to assume there won't be squat as well.
>>
>>380220872
I hope it's in silky smooth 20 fps so it can stay true to the original game
>>
>>380220872
This game had a metric fuckton of cut content, why not work that into this? It had 23 collosi originally and more areas to explore or some shit

Dormin's voice:
Hey cousin, wanna go look at some american teeetees?
>>
>>380251775
It had up to 48 at one point, at least in total concepts and ideas.

As for why not, who knows if they'll do squat for this. According to an interview, Ueda almost changed stuff for the PS3 collection, but opted not to because he didn't want to deprive the audience who had played the PS2 versions or whatever.

Maybe this time they'll ignore that silly line of thought.

>>380220872
>ARE YOU FUCKING READY FOR THIS SHIT??!!?!?!?!
I caNT BEat all this shitters blindfolded, it has 0 appeal to me unless they re-imagine the collosy or add new ones
>>
>buying the same game over and over again
You're part of the problem yet you whine in other threads how there were no new interesting games announced at E3. Idiots.

It's not hard to believe. Japanese game makers are weird about shit "preserving" the spirit of shit they make.
