Metroid doesn't sell. It's fun but it's niche. Only Super and Prime sold over a couple mil. Everything else sold low.

Plus do you really want another Other M or god forbid the Star Fox Zero treatment? Even if they make another 2D metroid it's going to get drowned in criticism over every tiny thing.
