Has anyone else been left totally disgusted with the whole Last Night? For some reason, it's affecting me more than your typical run of the mill weekly outrage. I think I may have broken it down:

1. This is beyond making a mountain out of a mole hill
2. What he said isn't even wrong
3. Sjw's are strong arming and displaying their influence within the gaming industry
4. Publisher and now the developer have caved in like a wet paper bag losing any integrity they had
5. The "gaming press" has displayed it's complete lack of ethics once again by dogpiling onto a single narrow-minded narrative
6. There's been no major counter the insanity
7. They actually believe that they are the good guys and not evil, intolerant, thought police cunts
8. The game actually "looks" good

Its not that I'm against political games, necessarily. I just wish the politics would fuck off out of most games, and if a game is political, it makes that known and doesn't try to be anything besides. Gone Home is a good example. While not a particularly good game in and of itself, it states its case and sticks to its guns. I played through the whole thing and that was about all I really appreciated about it, was that it had a message and it delivered it, albeit in a decidedly cinematic, walking-sim, non-gameplay oriented manner. It wasn't a fun game to play, but it had something to say and it said it, and that was it.
I just prefer gameplay over story (generally) and political posturing when I play games. I'm not saying there's something inherently wrong in the latter two (or that I'm not political myself), but rather that I want better and more gameplay and honesty/clarity when it comes to message and story.
I hope that makes sense.

the game itself is political. there's nothing wrong with it generating political discussion, in fact surely that's a good thing? what is wrong is that the dev should feel pressured to essentially apostatise and apologise for his beliefs in the face of dissent.

The saddest thing is that you honestly can't profess having alternate opinions anymore, especially in the gaming industry. Forget about what the consumers think and what shitstorms they raise on twitter, what's scarier is that you can get blacklisted real fucking fast for holding opinions that go against the grain. That's the frightening thing, you have to hold your tongue otherwise your actual livelihood might be ripped out from under you. You have no idea how scary that shit is.

You're right in that political discussion should've been expected, and that the dev ought not have apologized for his stances. But I would also note that it is likely that he felt a great pressure to do so, considering our current ideological climate. This is however no excuse. One must stand for something or fall for anything, as the saying goes. Although I imagine he felt undue pressure to effectively prostate himself, perhaps his beliefs would be perceived as more valuable had he not done so. Or he might've been further rejected. Either way, he should've stuck to his guns.
