Not sure, Maybe just because is the 20th aniversary of the franchise, so they redid everything, they added 3d models, and if they are going to upgrade it, why not just push it to 4K.

It look more like a respect for the franchise and maybe milk some nostalgia for a good upgrade rework that could last for the future

I didn't know it was the 20th anniversary of the franchise, so i guess it makes more sense on why they are remastering it now.

I'd be a little less hasty on saying the remaster can have no downsides, i still remember the clusterfuck that was the Bioshock remastery.

i wonder if its the same aoe2 crew working on it

I find interesting that they are giving support to all the age of empire stuff.
I mean, they in the last gears made Age of empires HD, they released 2 expansions for it
then they made age of mytology and made an expansion for it.
And now this remaster of the HD version.

I wish all this focus on age of empires, is like a "Training ground" for a studio so later they go "okay, now that you got all this experience with all the old games, Its time to make AoE 4 game"
