Monster Hunter has always focused on Handheld releases because it is best when played with friends and even strangers when you're out and about. This is something that happens in Japan, but not the USA. Japan and their love of handheld gaming is the only reason Monster Hunter exists as a franchise.
This will probably flop on consoles in the west, and the Switch (which is perfect for Monster Hunter because it's portable and has more power than a 3DS) will continue the franchise.

Wrong. 3U added new moves to weapons (such as hammer's uppercut) and a new weapon type with the switch axe. It also added underwater gombat, and new monsters unlike anything which had been in MH before. MH4U changed up some movesets (such as the Sns), added two new weapon types, removed underwater combat, and added vertical combat instead. Weapons handled more smoothly, you could act out of rolls, you have greater control during sheathing animations, and so on. 4U also introduced very unique monsters, though I preferred 3U's newcomers. Every game also came with new maps, new skills and some new items. 4U has the virus mechanics, for example.
