I like the open world, BotW-style interactivity with monsters, at least from what I've seen. Combined with the new stealth aspects, I could see if definitely making hunts more interesting. Grappling hooks could make flying monsters easier to deal with, too.

Past that, with no real footage of combat, I can't make any judgements right now. I'll wait until I see more concrete stuff.

It looks like a game from some other franchise, like Horizon or Dragon's Dogma, rebranded with the Monster Hunter name and characters. There are a lot of pitfalls associated with an existing franchise going open world, but even so, I'm cautiously optimistic that this could still be a very good game. The biggest red flag is that there was no sign of multiplayer at all, not even a flash on screen. Maybe there will be multiplayer but it shows where their priorities are regardless. I don't understand the "casualized" criticism leveled at MHW from (mostly) Nintendo fanboys

MHX / XX is the shittiest and easiest MH game thus far and completely casualizes the gameplay by making it was too easy and breaking fundamental core mechanics and the pacing of the game with its hunting styles (and some arts / new armor skills)

So I don't get it. This "CASURRR" thing goes both ways for the next ~2 years until we see if MHPortable5 cuts the MHX bullshit

I don't like the direction of Generations and XX, and I don't like how Worlds looks like.
I don't like Frontier or MHO either.

MH gives me a fuckton of hype whenever a new game is announced so it took me a while to consider things rationally.

I'm of course hoping for it to be amazing but I don't know if a survival MH will really make me happy, I'm more than likely going to be buying it, probably getting a PS4 despite it being on PC as well, because Shadow of the fucking Colossus and Spiderman make me a happy man. Although I'll definitely still be picking up XX and the semi-confirmed 5 on Switch. Not abandoning Nintendo over this. Especially with such a big gameplay difference.

Worried about what this means for the future, MH5 will still be on Switch but now we're gonna deal with two lines of games that have gimped resources, this could end up being very, very bad.

This is actually the ONLY thing I agree on the "casual" aspect. It indicates where loot nodes are. But at the same time they already made them easier to spot from 2nd gen to 3rd gen, by making Mining spots glowing rocks isntead of barely-visible fissures on the wall, and changing insect spots from small particles to butterflies (or raising the particle's visibility). However no one bitched about this being casualization.

As a fan since the PS2 days who was risky enough to play on PS2 even when people thought it was bad and loved it I am all about embracing change.

MH is a pioneer game that it takes the daring to be a true fan of. This is making me feel giddy and young again to see the game finally change and become more like an actual hunting game than an arena battler.

Now don't get me wrong I've played every main MH game in the series so far that came here and even helped evangelise this game to people who didnt get it.

Looks like the true fans will once again be the ones to dive into this weird quirky game to discover its secrets and merits.

Quite frankly I'm shocked how so many in the fanbase don't even want to give it a try. If the original western fans of MH had that attitude the series would never have made it past the original if no one gave it a chance.

Definitely super happy and looking forward to it. A lot of people don't realise that MH of today was refined over a long time to where the masses have embarrassed it. No doubt the developers of the new series will slowly tweak it to perfection with sequels as well.

I havent played a monster hunter since the first one, but that trailer got me interested in getting back into the series. I liked it but there wasnt really anything to do once you fought every monster but collect weapons/armor, the monsters themselves were really predictable once you fought them a few times and started to feel like a routine or chore. Swimming and climbing are depth to an already established system, same can be argued about hunter arts and styles. But when signs point to the possible changing of core mechanics or even the dumbing down of gameplay elements that have been around since the beginning that can be a red flag and turn people off. The open world thing isn't even part of what has me worried. The entire thing they showed didn't look like Monster Hunter despite having things from Monster Hunter in it. Stealth? Glowing markers? And what monster was that anyways, it doesn't look like it's even part of the actual series. I have hope. Yeah, there wasn't a lot of focus on combat, but it was the same way for Monster Hunter 4's original trailer. I'm not going to be overly critical based on this first glimpse. For all we know the grappling hook is a limited, breakable item. Definitely going to give this one a chance, but all the same I hope we get a Monster Hunter 5 announcement.
