I think it was trying to go for a 70's vibe. While the first game was in 1960 and had all the 50's stuff that BJ missed out on due to being in a coma (Eddie Cochrane style music and cars), I think this one will focus on the counterrevolutionaries with a 70's flair. It's why they have Afro Woman leading the resistance in the U.S., some dude taking LSD, and the KKK as a focus point.

Almost like a satire of that time in the US.

Literally, the first mission is a joke about BJ being insane. He wakes up 14 years later out of a coma and just starts killing dudes with a knife and shotgun while wearing a straight jacket like the war was still happening. Wolfenstein TNO was pretty sympathetic to the nazis all things considered. There were some evil nazis but there were also evil resistance members. Furthermore, a lot of credibility is lent to nazi rhetoric by making it the case that in that world Jews actually do belong to a secret international cartel with their own technology and stuff. There's lots of "average joe" nazis in the first game that are kind of just trying to pay their bills or whatever.

The second game if it can keep up that same feeling would be great. I'm expecting a relatively tragic end for Anya and the babies though. They'll likely end up being killed by the villain or something.

The new ones are okay. Bethesda's name may be on it, but it looks nice, and I had no bugs to speak of.
They do a good job of letting you pick how you want to play. You can kind of "stealth" your way through many levels if you want, or you can just shoot everyone and both ways work. They don't limit you to just 2 weapons, and in fact have ridiculous akimbo rifle wielding if you want that over the top action feeling.
On the bad side, there is a weird RPG leveling system, where if you do certain things you get better at that "style" of fighting. So doing certain stealth things, like knocking people out or finding and killing officers gives you better tools for stealthing. Same for going full Rambo, and
for cover shooting.

Overall I'd recommend them. But I wouldn't tell you to buy them full price if you're on the fence
