artists form a really big online community, and trends sweep through them just like any other. Representation is a huge topic in the public discourse right now, especially among artists, and it's definitely making them want to give their characters aesthetics that they see as having been under-represented in the main stream so far, but they're still creating those characters. I think your point is hitting the nail right on the head: some of the best bits of GoW came from the writers either actively subverting our expectations of the GoW aesthetic, or running with it to the point of near-absurdity. I prefer the idea of separate, parallel storylines. One character could be Jimmy 2.0, one could be a mid-level clique goon trying to keep his folks out of the kind of clusterfuck that happened in Chapter 5 of the first game, and the other could be anything else. Bully would work much better for multiple protag than any other R* game, I feel, since the world would feel/react to you differently depending on your clique in this setting.
