I'll buy it.
Didn't really explain it very well but having zombies has made it more like TBS Halo and I'm happy with that direction.

looks like a repackage of laien hunters as far as the chosen go, the idea of destroyed cities and the lost is cool i guess.

I just hope they fix the performance and add in more shit to finnaly deliver the proper resistance feel / theme that was missing so dearly from xcom2.

Not much, probably. I'm guessing the alien champions will work a lot like the Rulers did. Maybe with some tweaks if Firaxis listened to people about Rulers.

There's also earth factions you can buddy up with and recruit soldiers from and some new classes to mess with.

I'm slightly hype, but skeptical. I just hope it's not 'LOL theres 3 new Rulers and you can only pick one of the new classes by following a faction's quest line' or something.

all the dlc is shit anyway, for real
>>
>>380082648
There's an achievment for getting to high level with all factions in the same playthrough, so clearly this is not the case.

Also, looks like the chosen either adapt their skills based on your game or have new skills each playthrough.

How does it feel to know x-com has succumbed to waifuism and shipping with its bond system?
>>
>>380079965
1. That's a pretty old sci-fi trope as a result of early scifi being done cheap so shows like star trek couldn't do any better.

2. If you knew anything about the source material you'd know there's actually a good reason for that that was loosely touched on in GotG2.

Is it weird that I don't give a single shit about how the ayyys look? I didn't care about it during release, during EU/EW and so on, the only game (I'm currently playing, at least) whose design I give a single fuck about is Darkest Dungeon, as far as I care Jake could have simply recolored some Advent niggas, I just want new equipment and enemies.
Also, I'm not trying to justify anything, it's just that I didn't knew people cared this much, it's not like EW (or even og XCOMs) had top tier design either.
>>
i hate this new xcom.

xcom 2 could have been good but it just ended up being a big disappointment. this fixes none of the problems with the narrative or game.

That's all I ask for. I loved the Alien Hunters stuff, but that one feature made them far more fucking annoying then fun. It almost ensures you're going to be losing shit no much how much meta-gaming you do, and I feel that something that forces a death, instead of it always being a threat if mishandled, was the worse thing of that package. Just use a mod that stops that though and they are great fights otherwise that pushes your team really good.

>NEW FACTIONS & HERO CLASSES
Three additional factions have emerged to strengthen Earth's resistance – the Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars – each with its own unique abilities and contrasting philosophies. These factions provide powerful hero class soldiers to aid in missions and new opportunities for the strategy layer.

>THE CHOSEN
The Chosen are the most cunning enemies XCOM has ever faced, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that will be introduced with each new campaign. The Chosen are on the hunt for the Commander and will kidnap, interrogate, and kill XCOM’s soldiers to complete their objective. The Chosen can also invade the strategy layer and ravage XCOM’s global operations. Find and raid the Chosen’s strongholds to defeat the enemy for good.

>NEW ALIEN & ADVENT THREATS
A deadly new alien known as the Spectre, capable of creating dark copies of XCOM soldiers, has snuck onto the battlefield. Adopt new tactics to counter it as well as the explosive attacks of the ADVENT Purifier and the psionically charged ADVENT Priest.

>NEW ENVIRONMENTS AND MISSION OBJECTIVES
Engage in tactical missions across new environments from abandoned cities devastated by alien bioweapons during the original invasion, to underground tunnels and xenoformed wilderness regions.

>>380091736

>ENHANCED STRATEGY LAYER
Manage XCOM’s relations with factions and counter The Chosen’s operations from the Avenger. Employ new Resistance Orders to prioritize your personal strategy. Soldiers, scientists, and engineers can now be deployed for Covert Actions that award supplies and boost faction favor if successfully completed.

>GREATER CUSTOMIZATION & REPLAYABILITY
Soldiers can develop bonds with compatible teammates for new abilities and perks. The SITREP system dynamically adds new modifiers to the tactical layer to make sure every mission provides a unique challenge. Advanced campaign options allow for finer adjustments to game length and difficulty.

>CHALLENGE MODE
Utilize the perfect strategy in new regular one-shot community challenges to claim the top spot on the global leaderboard.

>SHARE THE RESISTANCE
Customize and pose your soldiers, then add filters, text and backgrounds to generate your own unique resistance posters that appear in-game and can be shared with friends.

The factions are on the human side. You get to buddy up with one of them and they'll give you their hero and probably a new class too.
>>
I actually have no idea what the hell the core idea behind this is meant to be exactly. I was hoping XCOM 2's expansion would be basically a bigger and better version of Enemy Within with much expanded choices for soldier customization and extra skilltrees layered on top of the base class, but this almost certainly isn't it from what I can see. If it's just extra unique enemies that give you a new suit of armor when you beat them this doesn't seem very appealing. But I guess more XCOM is always good in my books.

Worst case scenario though, is that it's just going to be them adding the Council back in the game by proxy through the three cunt factions bickering with one another.
>Commander! Faction A wants to attack an Advent outpost and burn it to the goddamn ground, but Faction B wants to steal its incoming resources shipment! What should we do!

>>
>>380095246
I'm fine with the difficulty spike. Once you get your grenadiers off the ground, 2 becomes piss easy. Rulers add some much needed tension and the genuine potential for a wipe. They're actually threatening, which is more than can be said for a lot of enemies.
>>
>>380095246
yep its a great idea badly implemented.

I wish they would just patch aliens extra turns out, double their health and nerf freeze stuff.
>>
Apparently, they're reworking the previous DLC to fit into this, which also includes buffing Sparks with more HP, weapon mods and such.

How's Long Dong 2?

>>

>I'm fine with the difficulty spike.

The game actually becomes easier with Alien Hunters. Frost bombs and Viper King armor makes the game waaaaaay simpler when you're not fighting rulers.

And you can always tell when you're going to fight one when you get the shadow chamber because there's a suspiciously low amount of enemies.

its awful, it makes the game revolve around stealth by hamstringing the fuck out of the mechanics and it makes it super gamey in that you just do the same thing. The only good thing Long War 2 has done is create a new rabid brand of fans that offer free butthurt when you criticize the game. Spectrum:Green is basically Long War 1 except with some serious depth since you can do a ton with x2's engine.

My advice is the same advice i give everyone. Just play Long War for EW, if you odn't like the state it was officially left in, there's a few rebalance mods

If you mix and match you can get some really neat stuff with either minimal clipping or you don't notice it 99% of the time. This is the COD (I think COD Black ops 3) ported over helmet, with the Stenchfury modular gila mask, and a scouter visor from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=650809111 . It's a nice improvement over the dumb stat pumping and razor-thin margins in LW for EU. The improvements in the strategic layer and the infiltration mechanics actually mean you have to pick engagements wisely, and what you choose as a clear impact on how you move forward.

It's not perfect, but it's a lot more interesting than regular XCOM, and much much better than the original LW.

Nope, but you can bet the expansion will. Jake realized Sparks were shit and is buffing them to high heaven. I'm sure he will realize that Bolt casters do WAY too much damage even in early game and will tone it down. But how the hell he could balance the armors, I have no idea.
>>
>>380115485
>Isn't there a mod that balances them?
You could just not use them.
>>
>>380116113

Just use ABA2/LW2 enemies + a class mod + LW2 items mod. It'd be easier than fiddling around with LW2's settings.

Personally I'm running so many mods that the rulers are never a huge problem, I am running A better Advent which means huge pods, so sometimes you can trigger a large pod + a ruler, which really makes you fight for your life.
Lighting a ruler on fire is great though, they just melt.
>>
>>380118758

The frost bombs and VK's armor frost ability are both clearly designed to counter the ruler's free turn.

I thought they were designed to freeze enemies in place :^)

But in all seriousness though, what I meant is that while the bolt launcher has a stun chance on normal enemies (Or at least that is what the description says, i have yet to see it stunning a non-ruler), it has a much higher one on rulers. Thus the 'designed to counter rulers', because it is more effective against them

The frost bomb and frost whip, while useful agaisnt rulers, last the same as with non-rulers. They are equally effective against both

No, they last much longer comparatively (normal enemies don't have free turns, meaning you get way more attacks in) unless you use it on a Sectopod/Gatekeeper. They are way more effective on non-rulers.

The Alien Hunter items unbalance the game on missions where you don't have any rulers, but if you don't use them at all the missions with rulers become unbalanced. There is no way to get around this except disabling the DLC.

Vengeance was something you could buy in the GTS, but people ignore it because it's complete shit. Bonds are more for the abilties and perks they give though. So prepare for 'dual' attacks. Two psi ops combining powers together for a much more massive attack. You thought that Null Lance was powerful before? Just wait for the close range double attack.

Safest possible thing isnt the correct choice usually. You always have to think "what will I gain". XCOM2 rewards aggression quite a bit. Shotguns are amazing and the only way for low level troops to hit is by exposing the enemies by flanking or grenading.

They are shit unmodded. Unmodded they can't upgrade their weapon, can't do a lot of shit a regular soldier can. So basically they are good early or slightly mid game but are gabage late game.

Mod them up and they become much better. There's a Long-war-style MEC mod for your SPARKs that lets them become the specialized classes.

Love Psi so much. Nothing like using Fuse on a Muton that you Line of sight hack when he's on a roof top with his buddies. Five enemies, only two survive the two story drop and both shred from the grenade, right into an overwatch trap. Only thing better is Void Rift giving you mass control over a pod of chrysalids that you use to scout a Retaliation mission. Activate every Advent and they run right into your overwatch wall.

>>
>>380134410
It depends on what your set up is. I had mostly micro stutter issues at launch and loading into a mission was a horrid mess with the games audio and major stuttering. Those are gone for me now and many others have reported better performance. But like I said, you can't be sure for everyone. Try to find someone with similar specs to you and see then.
>>
>>380134994
Maybe in XCOM3? Would be kind of annoying if they just tacked on eldritch horror aliens that only get fought for 4-5 missions and then fuck off from the story. Unless this expansion completely rewrites the ending.

Still a shame they never did something like have the Volunteer from EUW reappear from a parallel timeline where that game wasn't all a simulation.
>>
>>380134994
It wasn't actually hinting at TFTD, it just seemed like it because the final battle takes place under the ocean on Earth. It was just a stinger saying "You aren't finished yet". If it had been a webbed hand that showed up, then yeah, you would be right. But it was just Psi shit.

Take baby steps; switch to a harder difficulty. Stick to restarting the mission on a death.

Leverage how much you want to 'puss out' compared to actually completing the game.

I want to buy the DLC and play again but that "60% chance 100% miss" made my first playthrough a living hell.

What's with this weird mod? Why would anyone do a full overhaul just for this?
>>
>>380145614
Wonder how much it'll work. If it means toning down the health pools somewhat (or at least making them not so meaty unless on the highest difficulty), that'd be nice. Of course, even just removing their "Move ever time you do something" would also be fine.
>>
>>380145720

Look at your cheevo list on Steam. It's all there.
>>
>>380145614
You can't really rebalance it, the whole premise is shit.
>>
>>380122813
Personally I'd just do the following
>Bolt launcher only has an aim bonus when targeting rulers. Stun chance on non-rulers removed
>Frost grenade radius reduced, lasts only 1 turn on non-rulers
>The pistol and the axe are alright, after all swords and pistols are already useless, so buffed-useless is not a big deal

As for the armors i do not know, i don't use them at all out of how ridiculous they look
>>

>even just removing their "Move ever time you do something" would also be fine.

>>
>>380146321
Not really, they'd still have their tanky health pools and insane powers. It's just that having the huge HPs and being able to move when you so much as fucking click on someone is what's the joke.
>>
>>380143230
Definitely.
The mods outdo most paid DLC developers shit out.
>>
>>380146321
Not if they just changed it to make them have five actions a turn. Now you can never let them get near you, as then you could get bound and crushed, grabbed and dropped. It would also change how effective DoT effects are on them.
>>
>>380145614
They better not cater to the shitters who cry about "but it moves everytime i do something!". You remove that and you basically made rulers a normal alien with buffed numbers
>>
>>380146608

No, I've played different modded games where the ruler reaction system is removed or altered so they only go when you take an offensive action. They are jokes with it.

The huge HP isn't even a problem because they just run away once they lose a certain percentage.
>>
>>380146296

>>380146919
Well obviously the mods aren't perfect, dude. Very few of them are on the level of quality as the original game, or the LW people. The point is, being able to move EVERY single time is a tad much. If it were every other soldier who moved, it'd be fine because then you'd at least be able to get in some attacks or make a sound strategy instead of having to hope they don't wreck two or more of your guys.
>>
>>380146919
Yeah it turns out "rebalance" doesn't mean "literally just remove their strongest power and don't compensate in any other way". Amazing.
>>
>>380146970
It would be better it it was something loosely based on them, rather than simply wearing dead aliens like Halloween costumes.
>>
>>380147194
It's just a beefy looking suit like the one in Crysis, just slap a non-flesh color and it was fine.
>>
>>380147453

I had buffs for them as well. IIRC I used the mod that made them immune to basically all stat effects and the one that gave them perks like Shadowstep.

>>380147294
>The point is, being able to move EVERY single time is a tad much.

No, they give you plenty of tools to deal with it with the frost bombs and the bolt caster.

I agree that strategy with the rulers isn't that interesting because the optimal way is to sit there, don't move, and just take shots, but they aren't unfair to deal with. They only become unfair if you disable the mission to start them; the VK can spawn when the first Viper appears (what happened to me on my first supply raid), which is way too early.
>>
>>380148284
Yea, if you bother to bring those tools with you, which someone people tend not to either because of the limitations some of the weapons have, and how the rulers aren't guaranteed to always spawn in some missions. For one, most of the tools are for a specific ruler, so unless you want to be carrying all of them for every mission, that would be irritating for many.

Probably going to have to. If it's anything like EW was, then your original saves are going to only work for the version, while War of the Chosen will essentially act like it's own game with separate saves.

Probably means that mods will also be iffy on it for a while.

OG Long War is a blast in the early and middle sections of the campaign. It's roughly around the part where Heavy Floaters start getting perks out the ass and you have to grind for Plasma weapons that Long War falls off a fucking cliff.

I haven't found a combination of mods for XCOM2 that matches the first year of a LW campaign in fun yet. Do you have any suggestions? I've tried LW2 and ABA and they just didn't scratch the itch.

That's actually pretty cool. Considering the rulers were meant to be Vahlen's answer to fighting fire with fire, and yet they gang on you with regular Advent, this could be interesting to see. Maybe sneak up on enemies to trigger them into attacking, and then watching the zombies rip their asses open and maybe killing a potentially annoying alien.
