Eastern european pilsner is still a league ahead of any american attempts at larger, english real ales (including things like stouts) are a league ahead of the majority american attempts despite there being some decent contenders these days. And the fixation on "cold" beer is part of why.

Mainstream american beer is fuckawful but the microbrew culture genuinely isn't a meme. Around my area we get Heavy Seas, Flying Dog and Dogfish Head. Except I think Dogfish Head might be owned by a conglomerate at this point? Anyway beer is like everything else in America, mostly soulcrushingly bland and featureless, but there's some good stuff occasionally.
