Part of the appeal of RO2 was how different each class played and the feeling of being gimped when you were stuck as a regular ol' bolt action wielding rifleman. Added some serious tension to CQC when you had 1 shot before needing to work the bolt and could be going up against a guy with a PPSH ready to shred you. There's none of that in RS2.

Every class may as well be the same and using a weapon that ISN'T the rifleman standard equip is gimping yourself. The M16/AKs are so good at every range that there isn't a weapon that can ever come close to competing with them. Even MGs are usually a downgrade.

It's more to do with there being a dire lack of any good places to set up. For the so called improvements to where you can place a weapon it's still limited. Consider it gamey but I liked being able to swivel my gun quite a bit at some windows. Now half the time the MG is way too fucking exposed to be any good.

I only wish the jungles were denser and the objectives be more spread out on the maps. Right now the maps utilise about 25% of the maps. there are HUGE fields and jungles completely useless on all maps.

I don't get this, anon. You can see the smoke from gunshots from clear across the map. I regularly get kills by waiting for some shots and returning fire at the smoke. The sound still is kind of wonky but the bullet cracks when you're being shot at are much better.

This is still a dumb argument - you're just jerking off bolt-actions because you think they equate to more skill, but they do not with mechanics like the RO/RS series where hipfire is almost useless and full-auto causes insane recoil. All that happens is everyone camps forever except the handful of 10,000 hour players that can one-shot you at point blank range from the hip. More automatics/semi-autos means that there is just as much movement and charging as there is camping. RO2 was camper church and had the most camping of any game I've ever seen in my life. I don't know how people ignore this and claim it's the pinnacle or realistic shooters.

As was already posted, there are shotguns that are crazy effective, SMG's with varying, weird effectiveness, thumpers, MG's that require careful positioning, flamethrowers, mines, traps, etc.. I feel like there's actually more to do with your equipment in RS2 than there was in RO2/RS where all I did was lay in the grass for 10 minutes plinking away with my bolt action while waiting for the smoke and arty charge.

The point was that there are different roles in RO2. Machine gunners are supposed to cover a huge area while riflemen pick off specific targets to let SMG players in to clear out the objective. This is all gone from RS2 because everyone now has the SMG role of RO2 but with more accuracy. It's already been a couple months since their last update, which just introduced a mortar, IED's, and a map.. Made by someone else that isn't them.

I did my year in the sandbox, anon. 7.62x39mm is a more "powerful" round, but all that means is that it punches clean through a human body before it has a chance to tumble or fragment. 5.56x45mm, by comparison, tumbles almost immediately upon contact. And it tumbles significantly more at very close ranges, the kind you get from jungle warfare.

Look at this image. See how the M16 bullet shatters almost straight away and stays within the typical 30cm thickness of a human torso. And then see how the AK bullet only begins to yaw as it's beginning to exit the body at 30cm, and doesn't even yaw at all before 20cm.
