Just wanted to say I never post here but I got my start on Sonic the Hedgehog when I was a toddler, always considered Sonic 3 & K to be my favorite game with FFVII (sue me), and have been let down over and over and over again by Sonic Team. Just played Generations finally a few weeks ago, was pissed, and basically went on a rant to some of my friends about what they SHOULD be doing with Sonic only to find out that Sonic Mania is pretty much exactly it. That's a stretch to me, Anon, it still looked harder than Sonic 1, 2 & 3's first bosses. I mean in Sonic 1 you just hug a wall and attack when the ball is on the other side, in Sonic 2 you just jump on him while he slowly goes left to right & if you're good enough you roll into a ball and give him 4 hits right away as he's going off screen and Sonic 3 you just repentantly jump on him while dodging slow fire balls (and it can be even easier with the Flame Shield they give you before the fight), at least from what we seen here you're being chased the whole time (kind of like a reverse Mushroom Hill but slower) while his arms are targeting you, although I could see the Electric Shield raping him.

Like he barely needs to put minimum effort into the platforming and especially for the top path, everything else has springs that do a lot for you, even Sonic Generations did this better since the spindash and many sections of Green Hill have you going fast. I also dislike greatly how Sonic kind of stops completely after landing or hitting an enemy, it just seems slow. It's nice to see the Drop Dash though like you said, looks a bit off though. This comes from someone who likes all styles of gameplay by the way.

Everything is high enough a resolution that it doesn't look like "vomit" to me, but if they were going to make it as smooth as it should be to modernize the old formula, they'd need to make about 15 in between frames for coming off of ramps alone, on top of all the other unique shit the game has going for it. Nah. In Sonic 3, Tails kept most of his old sprites because of the rushed development (his flying animation and all the sprites made specifically for S3&K like turning do follow the S3 sprite style).
