Yes. The sense of exploring new areas and getting lost/sidetracked was what made it so great in the first place. Especially with a couple of friends in tow, excitedly chatting about the view and sharing in the sense of wonder.

There's no doubt vanilla WoW was a product of it's time, for 95% of us, it was our first MMO and seeing a huge world with no loading screens, filled with so many other real people was immense, I've never felt anything like the rush of coming home to level my level 15 warlock since ever.

Then I replayed nost and realized it was pretty tedious, the nostalgia made it fun, but it's definitely not a game I'd pick up and play today

Yeah these people have this meme their head that only a 12k players online server is alive. While in reality 3k+ is quite enough. And anything above 8k overcrowded.

Most of Elysium numbers used to be chinks anyway, desperately needs a good blizzlike vanilla to TBC progression server that bans fucking chinks

I still think it's fun. The lack of loading screens, use of in-game travel like flight paths and zepplins, and ability to traverse almost everything without running into invisoble walls gives it a sense of freedom and immersion sorely missing from most other MMOs. The way vanilla actively encouraged player cooperation and made soloing almost impossible is a relic of the past that I really miss.

So /v/ I'm an XIV player who bought the battlechest just yesterday. A friend of mine who's a WoW vet was showing me the ropes. Just did wailing caverns yesterday. Tanking in XIV is very similar, but less about CC, so running it as a warrior felt a little weird at first until I got gud with thunderclap. Dungeons being wide open like WC is new to me, I think I'll be playing again today.

I saw NIN and Bowie years ago, they performed Hurt together at the end.
Retail WoW is bleeding subs. Census addons have it at 1.5m characters (not players) in US/EU realms. It's not entirely accurate but is close, also works for identifying trends (the trend obviously being that people are vanishing).
Even sites like mmo-champion are pegging it at under 2m subs.
Still makes a lot of money, but it's so far removed from what it was yet they seem to continue to double down on all of their bad decisions that led to this.

I don't like Legion but I'm not anti-WoW, just feels unfortunate that they've shit the bed so hard and so quickly. Legion had a nice pickup from box sales but after the initial 30 days it disappeared and then some - any goodwill they had was spent after WoD.
Sucks.

I'm hopeful for gummycraft, looks very very good so far but don't want to burn myself out in a beta that will get wiped. TBC was always my favorite.
