If you have a PC, then it's already potentially a platform that MS can tap into and so they're making all their would-be exclusives also available to the PC crowd. If you already have a PC, this frees you up to get a different console instead of having to get an Xbone in order to play a measly amount of exclusives. It's probably not very good business sense since they're potentially limiting the userbase of the XboneX but it's pro-consumer as fuck. I have absolutely no idea how that's something any of you can shit on.

I'll try to explain to you.

1. The conference was dedicated to XboneX. They tried to sell it, to hype it.
2. There were two options to do that. First, is to show some exclusives. There was literally no exclusives.
3. Second option is to show that your console is more powerful than alternatives. They couldn't show that either, because 90% of presented games were ugly and outdated.

So, basically, they have spend 2 hours hyping shit that PS4/PC owners can buy and gave no reasons to purchase their new console.

Yeah I did in fact. Not a fan of most AssCreed games (only really cared for BroHood and AC4) but it looked pretty good. Sea of Thieves also looked like a lot of fun but I'm biased because I'm into pirates. Middle Earth looked good, The Last Night looked interesting, Anthem actually looked really promising even though I know it's gonna get heavily downgraded, and then Ori and Cuphead are some obvious winners. Oh and Ashen looks really interesting despite the lazy "no face" artstyle.

Didn't much care for Forza or Crackdown 3 though, Crackdown 3 in particular looks exactly like the first fucking game except now it'll have five or six phoned-in lines from Terry Crews whoopdie doo.

The games looked fine. If the express purpose of the Xbox press conference is to sell me multiplatform games, then they succeeded.

However, most of the good looking games they showed can be played elsewhere, and those other platforms have real exclusive content. So as a sales pitch for the Xbox console, was it really effective? I would say no, especially given they want people to spend 499 on this thing. They also did little to sell the benefits of the console to anyone who isn't a 4k TV owner.

Essentially the entirety of the conference was dedicated to their new, technically superior Xbox, but they did nothing to convince people why they should be buying either a base Xbox or a new Xbox with the games lineup available, and they did nothing to convince the large majority of gamers why they would need to buy this much more expensive mid-gen console.

Perhaps it depends on how you choose to evaluate these conferences. For me, with the console manufacturers, the point of their presentations is to sell you on the value of their console. Showing good games is part of that, but if you're only showing the games available somewhere else, then it's not a very persuasive pitch. You have to blend in games that are only available on that system, or that have exclusive, tangible content on that system that the others don't. MS has consistently failed to provide the Xbox consoles with that whilst Sony and Nintendo have.

I see where you're coming from actually, if you look at it that way then yeah it was pretty lackluster for MS, I mean they put virtually no effort into demonstrating the Scorpio's advantages, the least they could've done was maybe show a comparison with the old model or something. I think what disappoints me most about Scorpio itself though is that it's obviously very powerful, but they're wasting that power on 4k, which is almost a placebo effect on standard TVs. 4k only really has a place on PC monitors where you can actually see the detail, or giant projector screens, but on your average ~40-50 inch TV it's not even noticeable, so they're wasting power that they could be using on higher polycounts, better lighting, etc. And for literally double the price of an Xbox One S it's not worth it for just a resolution bump anyway.

However I always look at these shows from the perspective of an audience member who just wants to see new game premieres, regardless of platform, and MS's conference absolutely delivered on that. It was basically MS holding us down and forcefucking great gametrailers into our eyes for a full hour.

There's a market for this, a lot of the games that are playable on other platforms as you said, are actually playable on Xbox and PC. Not everyone can afford a gaming PC, and no matter how much /v/ memes about it you can't build an equivalent PC for the same price.
