Good ram is clocked at higher frequency by the manufacturer. It's designed to run at those clocks. If it says 2400mhz or 3200mhz then it is supposed to be used at those clocks. You can overclock it past that, but there's no real reason to in my eyes.

I have 4GB out of my 8GB as ramdisk to do fast computing on large files and everything works fast.
You only need an SSD and decent enough CPU to become fast.

That is true to some degree.
You can overclock a little and not force your hardware. After all the parts are clocked to work under their maximum capacity to ensure stability without any risk, so pushing only a little is no problem but if you overclock to much you are forcing it.

I am not. However I would say that going above 16gb is a waste if the most hardware-intensive work you do on your PC is playing games.
I rarely go above 16 even with 3 graphics editing programs open, and even then I assume it's because of some sort of memory leak in Photoshop.
