I tried out AC3 but it's just not very engaging. From what I can see it has a really different feel to the rest of the games. The flying around itself is pretty fun but the music is lame and the graphics really aren't at the point they need to be. The little I got to play of AC4 seemed way more fun.

Again, 04 is pretty straightforward but it is made great by its sublime presentation, showing the conflict from the perspective of a civilian in an occupied territory. The cutscenes can also really pull your heart strings at times, but at the end it's more about the way it's presented than the writing itself.

Zero on the other hand, is my favorite, solely because the documentary style plot told in retrospect is something we don't really see in games at all, it made the game feel like a real documentary like one of those old war tapes on VHS.

That's sort of what I was implying. There's nothing particularly impressive about the stories, when they actually try to make a big overarching one out of the missions they come across as hilariously weird. But there is a certain appeal to their presentation, even in 5, and some of the events that happen in mission, that aren't necessarily narrative in it of themselves, are what people have latched onto. Flying into shit and blowing up super weapons standout, as do enemies freaking out when they see you and the ace rivalries.

It's not the story itself but how the player is interfacing with it that people like.

There was nothing wrong with Zero's voice acting in my opinion, it was on par with 04 because of the more serious tone. I can't say the same about 5.

As for Pixy, it's a bit complicated, I mean after beating the game and checking his records on the album, you'll see he's actually Belkan. Of course seeing your country getting nuked 7 times at once right before your damn eyes is sure to fuck you up in some way.

But at the end of the day we are just discussing which one of the three is less good. All games in the ps2 trilogy are great and the best the series has to offer.

AC6 had interesting new things like the operation system which made you have basically 4 missions in one, but that meant every map would have literally hundreds of enemies. That was a bad thing to do because they had to make enemies dumb and easy to kill to balance things out, also the gun is OP as fuck too. It takes one bullet of the gun to take down a tank and about 2 or 3 to take out an enemy plane unless it's an ace.

I think this made the gameplay really boring despite the scale. Aigaion mission was pretty hype, though. And the number of planes was sacrificed for the level of detail, 6 has the best and most detailed cockpits in the entire series. The Nosferatu looks cool too.

The overarching plot in 5 sucks. It seems good at first but when you think about it's just really badly written. None of the plot twists make sense in retrospect, and the entire plot hinges on everyone acting like morons to allow things to work. There are multiple times when the writers couldn't figure out how to progress the plot, too, so they just have the Andromeda pick up a transmission that tells you exactly what to do. It's just bad.
I find 6's missions a lot less boring than 5's. 6 just has a big level and tells you to kill things. 5's are all super scripted so they're no fun to replay since they're identical every time. Especially the nonstandard ones like Reprisal/Final Option/Solitaire. Those ones are literally less fun to replay than AH missions are. And I know people are going to take offence at that, but seriously, they are.

I was talking about pure gameplay, not objective or mission variety. Yes the objectives are always "destroy X amount of targets to neutralize forces so our guys can have a good time advancing", but missions themselves are open ended, you can do missions doing air-to-air only or going solely air-to-ground or air-to-sea or multirole combinations. Also landing mid-mission, which is something 5 did not have.

5's story is certainly the weakest, but I never thought the "twists" were weak, and people obviously noticed shit like the President being missing, the unmarked fighters at the first engagement, Bartlett's disappearance, else why would an entire crowd of civilians start mocking the VP and an entire crew of an aircraft carrier go AWOL? The only thing where characters were being woefulliy ignorant of was the 8492nd, they must have a weapon that incurs short-term amnesia to anyone that mentions them. The Andromeda was a mcguffin to get the player back up in the air, it serves the same purpose of Thunderhead and Lt. Mitchell of "telling you exactly what to do", it was a way to keep the story moving without changing the game's formula. Other than that, the whole Razgriz aspect was good, the climax was good, the ending was great, and it was all well paced. 6 was awful all around for a thousand different reasons.

I really can't see how you find 6's missions more enjoyable than 5's, Bartolomeo Fortress was the height of the game, every single mission other than Heavy Command Cruiser, WMD, and the finale missions were EXACTLY the same just on different climates. There's one or two A2A operations, one or two A2G operations, and one operation like escorting a bomber or AWACS, that's it. Coupled with the fact that every enemy feels the same and can die in 1 missile or 2 bullets, and it becomes a chore to play. AC5 may be more scripted and have some chore missions as well, it's replayable because the majority of it's missions are fun and varied.

Actually, I'm pretty certain the civilians just start complaining because AC5 is terribly written. It's not like they'd know or care about some pilot going missing or some planes not having markings. If people had noticed the president had vanished they would have actually done something, not just complained about waging a war against Yuktobania even though Yuktobania are ridiculously evil and are literally trying to murder them at that very moment.
The carrier group doesn't go AWOL until the Andromeda conveniently picks up a transmission saying exactly where the president is being held, anyway. Which is really bullshit and on a totally different level to Thunderhead saying there's a war on so you should go attack the enemy as part of it, by the way. And the group going AWOL and nobody even caring is retarded too, by the way. AC5 has a lot of problems in that regard, though. Pretty much everyone can just teleport around to wherever they need to go for the plot to work with no problems. I mean, fuck, the Belkans are regularly flying across half the globe just to meet up when there isn't even a reason for that. Except as an excuse to show you them together even when it makes no sense, I guess. There goes that shit AC5 writing again.
