has anyone else noticed how all games looked the same at e3?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

has anyone else noticed how all games looked the same at e3?

we have definitely reached a graphical plateau
>>
Shadow of the Mordor looks worse than The Last of Us (4 year old game) and Sea of Thieves is a glorified iphone game
>>
No, the problem is that consoles are still playing catch-up to high-end PCs, and devs are focused more on pushing 4k rather than effects and framerates.

the indoor scenes in battlefront 2 looked insane
>>
>>380009504

Yeesh, I agree. It didn't look too good. Also, wayyyy too much talking in-game. WTF?
>>
>>380009530
>being this clueless about the (lack of the) relationship between textures, models, and engine
>>
>>380009779
A lot of the way a game looks and feels is engine-bound. It's pretty easy to identify when a game is Unreal Engine 4 based, for example.
>>
from what theyve shown for xbox one x, almost all realistically graphical games are third person or first person shoot

why

have we fallen so low that we cant create something new
>>
>>380009341
I was actually looking forward to when we reached peak graphics because it would force devs to experiment with unique art styles but now they're all either doing a realistic art style or that cartoony tf2 style. No fucking creativity.
>>
>>380009341
still hoping that there will be another crysis tier jump
>>
>every game is the same shit
>muh realism
When will we get some games with a nice timeless art style for once?
>>
>>380010187
any alternatives?
>>
>>380010195
What would that even mean anymore?
>>
>>380009341
Gee, why would that happen? Definitely not because "gamers" throw a fit whenever something doesn't run on their 2007-spec hardware.

Yep, I looked at this and instantly thought "UE4 sure 100% no doubt". Or the mobile injustice game. Or some mobile "MMOs". Or..
>>
>>380009341
maybe it's because games are trying to run on the PS4, XBO, and switch; all three of which have varying degrees of mobile phone hardware in them

Nintendo keeps being pretty good with that.
>>
>>380009518
>4k rather than effects and frame rates.
but why? Effects are interesting and framerate literally affects gameplay quality.
>>
>>380010187
I suspect that we'll hit a golden age of style and substance when we really start hitting the limits of Moore's Law.(Assuming we don't find some absurd way of circumventing it)

Right now, everything is created with the idea that in a few years much of the tech will be outdated, so it probably affects the way the games are built and designed...

Why is everything open world or survival

Were there even any RPG's or platformers or fighting games

I didn't see anything that catered to my interest, just crap that caters to the "PRE-ORDER AT GAMESTOP" crowd
>>
>>380010412
I mean, yeah... The fact that Unreal is a hyper-generalized engine means that it trades flexibility and performance for increased speed of development.

An engine made from the ground up for a specific purpose will have advantages over a generic system.

Ratchet and Clank on PS4, for example, would have been impossible on UE4:

Pay attention to Sony's E3 conference, the same development team is working on the new Spider-Man game(Another ground-up custom engine). I guaranty it will rock the socks off of 99% of everything there.
>>
>>380011683
The initial argument was that games "all look the same" because of the engine choice, which is incorrect as long as you either have any experience in gamedev or care to spend 2 minutes in google.
>>
>>380010634
Not with odyssey though.
It looks pretty bad, like it is trying to make Mario look more realistic putting him in fucking human city, that's retarded.
>>
It could have something to do with every game using Unreal Engine 4.
>>
>>380012221
I'll concede your point, but it depends on what you mean by "look the same." They literally all have the same rendering pipeline. If you put a red texture on something as opposed to a blue texture, of course it will "look" different, but you're still bound by what the renderer is capable of doing(in the style the rendering pipeline dictates)

Ocarina of Time might have a different visual style than Mario 64, but they're both using the same hardware bound rendering pipeline. In that sense, N64 games 'look the same,' they're easily identifiable.

Same with PS1 games, PS2 games, etc... It's the reason you can roughly tell what year a game was developed in.
>>
>>380012414
That was one level.
And I bet those aren't even humans.
They ALL have the same trench coat and hat, as if that's what their species actually looks like. They might not even actually be wear clothes.

Artstyle > graphics

I say this as a pc-fag
>>
>>380010740
Because most people still don't know what framerates are, and 4K is the big marketing meme that everyone wants to get in on.
>>
>>380013007

That looks like shit
>>
>>380009341
Graphics plateau when console parity becomes a thing and they started designing for consoles first.
