I think the issue is how up front the people were with showing off 'this character is black' or 'this character is a woman' rather than the game itself.

it's more a red flag from my perspective, it gives the impression that the game developers would rather pat themselves on the backs for being 'progressive' than make a game that's fun.

By basing the character around their personality and not their fucking skin tone you can make the best stories. I'd like to see an alternative version of the exact same Wolfenstein trailer, but the black woman is instead a 40 year old asian woman with glasses and a handbag. Having her screaming STAY AWAYYY, HONKEY and WE GON OVERTHROOWWW THE NAZI MENACE MY NEGROES would be a lot less fitting, wouldn't it? That isn't to say that all dialogue shouldn't be based around the character itself, only that obnoxious stereotypes shouldn't have a place in any SLIGHTLY serious media.
