I think you're forgetting CE is literally "hallway simulator" and you're hardly fighting in an open space. Even on the open maps, you're more often than not in some kind of hallway. Halo 2 felt much more fair in this regard. I think that's why Cairo Station is so infamous, because it forces you into such small environments.

This. I just completed the campaign on legendary with a friend, and the first level was certainly the worst just because of those rooms you mentioned. There's a serious lack of ammo and tons of Elites in an area where it's hard to focus on one without getting swarmed by the others.

While some Jackal sniper parts later in the game were annoying (especially the one in Metropolis after leaving the tunnel, holy shit), at the end of the day they still just boil down to memorization. But those hangars? No easy trick to them, you just have to duke it out slowly.

Is this some recent meme? I never had problems with halo 2's legendary difficulty. Jackal snipers were rough, but they forced you to play defensively and run behind walls and strategically peek at them. Once you learned how to do it it was no problem. We got Jackals in the courtyard!
