They've refined their workflow and improved the quality of animations as well. The cast's new moves and folks like Dizzy, Baiken, Raven, Kum, and Jam look noticeably better than the first batch.

It also helps that 3D models are just better for modern rendering techniques and scale better. They're also more flexible in their use (see: rotating the camera, story mode, etc...)
