So You decided that extra 8 gigabytes of ram and i7 instead of i5 is more important than a decent gpu for gaming. Please explain.
>>
You spent 1200 dollars for a motherfucking 1050ti? Good lord anon, there's a reason everybody tells you not to buy prebuilts. If you can't take the time to research what you're buying then PC gaming is not for you.

Take that thing back to the store, and get something better with that budget.

Just read up for a day or two and go to /g/ man, it's not THAT complicated

Unless you're buying used and want to buy older hardware, it's pretty simple

NVIDIA:
1050 < 1050ti < 1060 3GB < 1060 6GB < 1070 < 1080 < 1080ti

AMD
460 < 470 < 480 < older FURY card
>>

Just showing you that, that computer would cost around that much up here. We pay 30 cents on the dollar. A 1080 ti is 1000 bucks.

AMD CPU's are a no-no
The assortment of random letters and numbers thing is confusing at first but you'll pick up on the naming patterns quickly.
>nVidia: GT(X if it's a gaming card) XY0 (X being the series, Y being the performance tier, 0 just being a 0, so GTX 970 is a gaming card from the 900 series with mid-high performance for it's time)
X50 is entry level, x60 is mid end, x70 is mid-high, x80 is high, and x80ti is retard/4k tier
nVidia is currently on the 10x0 series
>AMD: RX XY0: Pretty much same as nVidia, only it's RX instead of GTX. They're on the 5x0 series right now.
x60 is low end, x70 is entry level, x80 is mid, and x90 is higher end whenever they can be assed to release a high end card

Get a R5 1600 or R7 1700 then, the ryzens excel at streaming.
>>
So someone tell me, exactly where have i fucked up?
>>
>>379872792
You basically wasted around $500 but if it can run what you throw at it and you got disposable income then who cares, have fun anon. When the time comes and you want to get a new build try and do a bit of research. It's really not complicated at all with benchmarks being done everywhere on the internet now.
>>
>>379872403
To expand on this:

Nvidia:
GT 710 < GT 720 < GT 730 < GT 740 < GTX 745 < GTX 750 < GT 1030 < GTX 750 Ti < GTX 950 < GTX 760 < GTX 1050 < GTX 960 < GTX 770 < GTX 1050 Ti < GTX 780 < GTX 970 < GTX Titan (original) < GTX 780 Ti < GTX 1060 3 GB < GTX 980 < GTX 1060 6 GB < GTX 1070 < GTX 980 Ti < GTX Titan X < GTX 1080 < GTX Titan X (Pascal) < GTX 1080 Ti < GTX Titan Xp

AMD:
R5 330 (R5 430) < R5 340 (R5 435) < R7 350 < R7 450 < R7 360 < R7 455 < RX 550 < RX 460 < R7/R9 370 < R9 370x < R9 380 < R9 380x < RX 470 < RX 570 < R9 390 < RX 480 < R9 390x < RX 580 < R9 Nano < R9 Fury < R9 Fury X

Also, don't ever buy anything below a GTX 950 on the Nvidia side or an R9 370 on the AMD side, most of them are trash.
Aside from maybe the 750 Ti if you're looking for performance somewhere between the PS4 and the XB1.

The graphics card is pretty bad for a 1200 dollar build. It's about around the level of my GPU which was 1000 dollar build tier back in 2014
Everything else is fine (although the locked CPU is a red flag) but just the price makes me cringe.

Sell the 1050ti (doubt you'd get much back but it's something) and get a new power supply and a GTX 1060 or 1070 if you are past the point of returning the build. If you can still return it, get that puppy refunded and build something from scratch. It feels way cooler and it's really not hard at all once you get past that initial "HURR DURR I DUNNO ABOUT COMPUTERS BIG NUMBERS SCARE ME" hump.

>>379871049
I'd get at least a 1060 in a rig like that. The 1050 is better for smaller budget builds, not for a fucking $1200 rig. If you're spending that kind of money you'll want something that actually has some power. Also get more storage space. 120gb/1tb is nothing. It might seem like a lot but you'll fill it up in no time. Get at least 250gb/3tb, it's not even going to drive up the price much.

All in all I find it hard to believe that's a $1200 build. I'd pay no more than $800 for it. Of course prebuilt is always pointlessly expensive, but still. You're being ribbed off big time.
>>
>>379874105
1050 Ti is quite a bit faster than the 460.
But yea, I wouldn't go below a 460/1050 if you're looking for comfortable modern gaming.
>>
>>379873848
If you can't return it, upgrade the GPU to a RX580 or GTX1070, which will most likely also require a PSU upgrade, and you will be fine

Welcome to 4chan, newfriend.

Sometimes when 2 different images get posted at exactly the same time, they end up getting switched across threads or even different boards sometimes. They're usually easy to recognize by the fact that the thumbnail doesn't match the actual image. The usual reply is to blame the switch on Moot.

Now you know.

You fucked up, the video card is the most important component for games, that alone should cost between 1/3 and 1/2 of your total budget (not including the monitor).

Sell that GTX 1050 ti and buy a GTX 1070 and you wont have to worry about maxing graphical settings for next 4-5 years.
>>
>>379875656
>>379875710
The aspect ratio of the thumbnail was fucked up, because it matched the ratio of the original image instead of the barney image.

It's really fucking obvious whenever it happens.
>>
You did waste like 400 dollars but it's a entry level gayman PC at the very least, 1080/60 on the highest settings on every game you throw at it isn't bad, but consider upgrading that grafix card in the future, right now you could bump the ram to 32 ddr4 and it would set you back 100-200 dollars.

Is there any point in getting an i7 for gaming? It's kinda like the Ryzen meme I think. It's useless unless the game uses a lot of multithreading, which almost no games do properly anyway. Might as well get an i5 and save $100.

You're living in the past. Ryzen is not bulldozer, go look at benchmarks on youtube or whatever. R5 1600 particularly has very good value - its IPC is sligthly lower than that of i5 7500, however its multi threaded performance is vastly superior and the platform has longevity because AM4 was just released and you know how Intel is like with socket changes. The R5 lineup made i5 processors not really worth the money.

RAM is cheap and CPUs takes ages to get old, its the only part of your system worth overinvesting in.

While GPUs need replacing every other year, and their performance only matter depending on what your monitor has for specs. For a 60hz@1080p screen, a 1050ti is perfectly okay, while a 1070 would be overkill and thus a waste of money.

1440p gaming at a steady 60fps needs a bit more than a 400 dollar PC, admittedly, since you need a beefier GPU at least if you wish to play DS3 1440p/60fps. I have a GTX 780 and it isn't quite enough to get 60fps when a lot of stuff is happening on screen. You'd probably need at least 1070 for that. Then again maybe even that wouldn't be enough because Dark Souls 3 is just terribly optimized.
>>
>>379879948

The 1060 will be able to play games at 1440p just fine (you will just have to lower settings a bit)

While the thread is up, i'm looking for advice on how much longer this thing can last. I think it's coming in on almost 6 years old now? I picked up the gpu a while ago, thats been the only upgrade. It still runs most games on max, but it's starting to show it's age.

Any thing I could swap out quick, or is it time to build a brand new one? I did all the research back in the day, but i'm all out of the loop now.

I really love 144hz, but many games don't support it and you can't really downgrade yourself from it since the smoothness is addictive. I'd go for a high resolution, high image quality monitor with sync technology instead if I were you.
>>
>>379880271
Top kek, lad.

I don't know the details on some of those, but I do know that DOOM, Hitman, Andromeda etc. definitely do not properly utilize multithreading. They might use some multithreading, but nothing that you couldn't do with 4 cores just as well, and certainly nothing that actually takes an advantage of Ryzen's "just add more weak cores and hope someone figures out how to use them" approach.

I heard good things about AotS though, I'll have to check that one out.

My 4690k hits 90-100% usage on the regular in 2016/17 games. Bf1 is the biggest offender, stutter fest unless I lock the framerate to try to help the cpu

Even Intel knows 4c4t i5s are now a thing of the past since they got competition, coffee lake in August will have either 4c/8t or 6c/6t i5s so now is a really bad time to buy an i5, could have got basically the same thing 6 years ago called the 2500k

I'm looking to make a comp that'll last me a long time. Unfortunately I'm a scrub that's new to this shit. I've been using logical increments as a point of reference(By using the grid and looking at the monstrous stuff). Should it cover everything I need? Outside monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.
>>
>>379882313
Not really. Then again 144hz displays often come with FreeSync/GSync which is nice when the framerate fluctuates from 40 to 70.
>>
>>379881361
Get a b350 motherboard, they still allow you to OC and you most likely won't miss any of the x370 features.
Get a 2TB HDD, while it's easy to add more storage as needed you'll hit 1TB pretty easily and it's cheaper per/GB to buy larger drives.
Everything else is fine or within the margin of personal preference.
>>
>>379881232
This is exactly why I wouldn't recommend a i5 in 2017. They are outdated since Intel just refreshed it over and over for the last 6-7 years or so since the 2500k so the modern Kaby lake i5s are only 20-30% faster than the 2500k.

Had the exact same experience with a 980 + 2500k 4.6, bottlenecked in alot of games. Framerate almost doubled in bf1 after changing to 1600, I think the 980 was only at 50-60% usage with the 2500k

Correct. 144Hz is a meme for non multiplayer vidya anyway.

are you fucking retarded? you could have just downgraded the cpu and halved your ram to get a better video card

Fuck it, I'm just going to keep using my monitor from last year which is a TN Benq 24" 60hz with this build...
Any changes I should make?

Looks good, but you can shave a few bucks off by not going logitech. If you like logitech then go for it.
>>
>>379910258
Get some Edifier speakers instead of Logitech.

2TB HDD have more GB per $ value so I recommend upping the budget there.

1060 is good for 1080@60hz
>>
>>379911384
the video card I chose is also a good one too?
>>379911319
and when you say logitech you mean both the mouse and speakers??
Okay I will look for different ones. Hope I dont regret using my monitor but i dont know if its worth it to use a 144hz one since im not competitive and just lightly play games

You've got a great build for light gaming plus extra if you wanted it. I do mean the speakers and the mouse. I use pic related. $14 on amazon and I've never had a problem with it after a year. Take your pick on speakers. I use headphones. Also, I'd never advocate for case fans unless you have a special situation that required them or you have autism. It's easier to just take the side panel off.

>>
>>379914115
hmm. i dont want it to be too light. thanks for the recommendations.
will i be able to play skyrim and dark souls 3 max settings and 60fps with it at least?

maybe some overwatch if i wanted it?
>>
>>379904835
What case and is it available without a window?
>>
>>379915315
Yes, but dark souls max settings I'm not too sure. If you want peace of mind use the savings and put it towards a 1070. The 1070 has the best performance per dollar anyway.
>>
>>379905478
>better video card
He can run basically any modern game at 1080p 60fps, he doesnt need a better gpu unless he wants to play in 1440p
>>
>>379916754
For 1200 dollars though, that boy got robbed
>>
>>379916754
The build is fine, the price is what we're balking at.
