Fox and Foxhound are two completely different things

Fox basically always existed. It did in the first NES games and in the chronologically first game that is MGS3. We never really learn about it's beginnings, just in snippets. It was founded by Zero and the Boss... and that's about it. Portable Ops is pretty much about the founding of Foxhound, also the first game in which BB starts to turn into a warmonger with questionable morals and in general it was a really important game and it pisses me off that Kojima makes it out to not be canon and that so many people skip it because it's only on portable, because the story is so much more relevant and interesting than Peace Walker

They don't go into detail as to why he's the only one endowed with the honor of taking the codename "Fox", that happened in... a codec talk in the second game...? That really was just a tiny snippet
