Enough direction to get you going in the beginning.
Very little direction beyond that.

A fairly damn large area in which you can climb almost anything, (unless it's raining...) but only 4 dungeons (they're also fairly short, but all decent.) and 120 shrines which are mostly very short.

There're also a few hundred koroks hidden around the overworld, and they're used to increase the number of Weapons, Shields, and Bows you can carry. But at a rediculously increasing amount of seeds per inventory slot.

Every other inventory seems to have a much higher limit than you'll hit.

The last thing being: Rupees are stupid hard to gather, but almost anything that wants them wants THOUSANDS of them. (For Example: Unlocking all the Great Fairies to fully upgrade your Armor takes 11,600 Rupees.)
There are a few good minigames to farm them, but one slow but reliable way to gain money is using a cooking pot to turn 5 items into a meal. Meals sell for way more than the sum of their parts. (eg: 5 apples sell for 15R, a 5 apple cooked dish sells for 50.)

Cooking is also how you get anything to heal you in the field, (raw materials are usually 1/2 a heart each, cooked they usually heal for at least 1 ea.) as well as do various other effects. It is also a use for things monsters drop, as they can be shoved in the pot with a bug/frog/lizard to create elixirs which do the same thing as meals, but rarely does healing.

10/10 game until you get to your first divine beast dungeon and realize that it's just not really a dungeon. The only real dungeon is Hyrule Castle and even then you can just fly over everything.

I've been playing BotW since March 3rd. I don't play as much as I did after I got it. I also have a toddler so I don't have as much time to play as you probably do. I still enjoy the heck out of it.

I got all the towers, completed three divine beasts, 50 shrines, master sword, a handful of korok seed which I traded for more weapon space, and half the memories. 60 hours

I kind of enjoy the weapon durability. Constantly picking up new stuff and chucking what's about to break at enemies kept me on my toes for the first 3/5 of the game. After that I just had a full inventory of giant boomerangs and elemental greatswords at all times since you can just memorize where weapons respawn.
