I should be excited for the new jobs, new skills, story, areas... But I just can't.

I know they wont fix a shit about the game problems. I know it will be HW 3.0 all over again, also known as 2 endgame dungeons, 2 shitty trials, 4 stupid raid bosses (easy as hell too like Creator) and nothing else but leveling all classes to 70 and jewing on the market board.

Give me some reason to be excited. Do it, please.

I started playing about a week ago, I just reached level 38 and learned "Ruin II" and after a little reading I learned that it doesn't replace Ruin but instead functions as an alternative for certain situations.

Both spells do the exact same damage but Ruin II also inflicts blind and is instant cast but it costs double the MP and it can't be used in low level synced dungeons. So basically you need both on your bars just in case certain situations popped up.

Also I heard that the new expansion is trying to fix some of this, I don't know specifically what's changing but basically my thoughts now is just to not bother playing the game and learning anything about my class for the next 5 days since it's going to become irrelevant soon anyway.

I guess I'll just go hang out in the saucer for a while and play other games. Not that I'm not enjoying the game or anything just that I want a clear head for the new stuff. Basically this game is pretty great from what I've seen so far.

How to fix WHM: literally Just give it WHM skills, it already has enough healing spells

>Shell: partywide cd that reflects a small % of the damage you take from enemies back at them for 20~ seconds
>Reraise: very long cd that gives target one auto-life stack, automatically brings target to back 50% health when hp reaches 0, bypasses weakness
>Replenish: Partywide cd doubles the effect of food for 1 minute
>Haste: single target cd that doubles percentage based procs for 20s
>Valor: Add 30 potency to a target's next weaponskill combo. activates on use of first skill and ends when the combo finishes or the combo is broken.

I don't know why yoshi hates them in XIV, they were utility kings in the other games

So, HW got us 4 (counting NIN kinda as HW job) new jobs and a new race.

SB pruned skills, got only 2 jobs, no new race and seems to be same otherwise.

I thought the game was doing well. How come they have comperatively less stuff this time around?

Things will be a bit confusing at first for everyone, no need to worry too much about it now.
>>
>>379837936
Ruin is better than Ruin 2 if you don't have to move; same potency, cheaper on MP.
Ruin 2 avoids the DPS loss from movement, but costs more MP instead.

Stormblood will barely change anything summoner has from 1 to 60, it will only add more. So, don't avoid it for a week, go level that shit.

The trick isn't to ignore them, but to do the exact opposite of what the NA community at-large wants.

Make more difficult content with exclusive rewards so they have to step-up or step-out

But it's getting better in Stormblood with Thin Air ad 60s Assize, and they're still the highest personal DPS healer and also now by far the best AoE DPS healer. The idea that WHM is intended for those who only want to heal is stupid.
>>
>>379839520
Rehaul was the wrong word, they condensed and pruned skills. Classes still play mostly the same, they just lost some fluff and gain a few things in SB, often things that just amplify or augment the job's unique feature that already exists.

Unless you're Bard or Machinist, then you get overhauled pretty hard every expansion apparently.

Oh sure, sure, but it cannot compete with extended shroud with possible ewers, nor with aetherflow and shroud and energy drains.

Not really. If you gave it a 30 second cooldown that'd be about 1000 DPS. Compared to the 4000 DPS the actual DPS classes will probably be doing at level cap that's not that much. Give it a 90 second cooldown if you're really worried about balance.

Yeah I'm not really confident they know what the fuck they're doing with Bard/Machinist. Bard's changes look extremely welcome just by nature of fuck Wanderer's Minuet, but Machinist was already in a great place, it didn't seem necessary to totally overhaul them just to maintain the parity of 'well if one ranged doesn't have to cast than the other can't either'

But who knows if that was the thought, that's just my guess considering that's seemingly how WM came about to begin with.

>>379840074
I mean, Monk essentially didn't change at all. They still do the exact same shit in the same order at the same times, just minus ToD and Fracture. Black Mage still revolves around Enochian, Dragoon around Blood of the Dragon, most job's core rotation did not change. And that is by and large a good thing (Monk could've used a bit of a change or at least something new).

They could have Bard level re-done every godamn job.

Silk road style world-based trading integrated with FCs or market board or some shit
Major rework of gathering so it's actually viable income
Major rework of food, potions, crafting, etc. so that it is essentially mandatory to participate in or at least purchase rather than the faceroll useless distraction it currently is
Major rework of gil so that it is far more useful and required, such that economic power translates into better ability to complete battle content and obtain rarer glamours, etc.
Severely cripple the duty finder so that most higher level duties require active communication and cooperation to form a group for
Revamp dungeons and combat so that consumables, food and armour are now required, and exploration, choice and randomness are now present in dungeon design
Revamp battles so that classes have actual utility and interaction beyond "put out a slightly larger or smaller number on the enemy's head"
Actually give company airships a function
Uncap tomestones because fuck off
Introduce permanent equipment damage and durability, requiring high level crafting to avoid/mitigate

I could go on
Basically tie all systems to all the others so that everything that is presently irrelevant and ignored is finally given some impact, rather than being thrown to the side to make it easier for the battle team to balance content.

Yep, it ain't a nerf, but it sure as shit feels like one. Touch of Death and Fracture were simple, nice additions. Removing fracture actually makes the class worse, as you can't as efficiently control your form to prepare for an invuln period.

Riddle of Fire is better than Blood for Blood, but removing the character speed of the class temporarily for bigger hits feels stupid, since that's never what the class has been about.

Brotherhood and the Chakra trait do technically improve the class and give it raid-wide utility (at a rate much worse than Trick Attack), but it still isn't a replacement for actual *new* attacks.

I'll stick with monk because it'll forever be my main, but this does not feel like my expansion, even if the class balance is fine and monks are desirable in raids, we just did not get any fun new stuff like literally every other class.

And that is a pretty disappointing skill to be honest. MCH lost almost all of its ogcd, literally isn't much of a support anymore and gets probably the worst punishment for fucking up in the game. Overheating your barrel might aswell slap you with rezz sickness. So naturally all new skills revolve around the new mechanic being less of a hassle... making me wonder why introduce it in the first place instead of going with their first MCH plan of having them modulate their weapon during combat and having several ammo types to choose from.

All this will change Friday anyway. Ruin 2 will have 100 potency giving it a clear lead over Ruin 1, and Ruin 3 will be nerfed to 150 potency so it'll not be worth using outside of DWT anymore.

MCH still have shitloads of oGCDs. They are still basically oGCDs: the class. They even still revolve around fitting them all into miniscule burst windows. The only things they lost are brainless buffs like Raging Strikes, and the tiny damage on utility skills like Head Graze and Blank. They still have:
Wildfire (now on a 60s CD)
Reload
Quick Reload
Reassemble
Ricochet
Rapid Fire
Gauss Round
Hypercharge

DF prevents creation of challenging content. In a matchmaker you don't know who you get so they have to make content for the lowest common denominator to ensure consistent success rates. DF puts zero responsibility and by proxy zero enjoyment. And obviously that makes devs obligated to funnel people to the matchmaker so we get wage tome payouts instead of any kind of interesting rewards for doing content.

There's downsides and upsides for both approaches and basically there should be both trivial content (for shit like leveling or tome farm) and content you can't queue for without a full premade (like actual hard mode dungeons and raids).

Putting EVERYTHING into LFD ensures that your players will never have a reason or motivation to get better and tackle interesting challenges you may wanna give them.

b) if it's someone's first time, they SHOULD interact with shit and even die to them so that they know how it works. there's nothing more detrimental to improvement than being in an unusually smooth run and getting carried

XIV has always been on a shoestring budget, and it has only been getting tighter as the game goes on.

In ARR, each patch had:
>4 raid bosses
>3 dungeons
>1 extreme trial
>1 side/story trial
>A full set of Hildibrand and Postmoogle sidequests
>A major new feature such as entire the gold saucer, player housing, or a whole new job

HW introduced 3 jobs and each patch had:
>4 raid bosses
>2 dungeons
>1 extreme trial (no side trials)
>A small handful of Hilidbrand/scholasticate quests
>A minor piece of additional side content that is usually dead on arrival, grindy as fuck, or both e.g. Verminion, Diadem, PotD, Zhloe

SB is going down to 2 jobs, and will only have 2 dungeons in even patches, with 1 dungeon in odd patches. The game's updates just get smaller and smaller.

Most of its profit is cannibalized by Square and siphoned into their huge moneysink projects like XV, KH3, and VIIremake.

You're misunderstanding, players shouldn't be the one to shame others. People will just switch off their brains and numb themselves to the criticism by writing it off as some random Duty Finder faggot's opinion. Thanks to the Dunning Kruger effect and the lack of empirical proof they're doing poorly, thanks to lolnoparsing.
THE GAME is the one that needs to shame people. If you're playing the game, and it punishes you for failure in a public way, the shame will make you realise "Hey, maybe the problem is with me and -I'm- the one who needs to get better".

eg. If a child cries in America the parents indulge it because they have no shame, and until it stops crying the noise continues to piss off bystanders.
If a child cries in Asian cultures though the parents (mother usually) will pick up that creature and literally sprint to get it out the way. Because they actually feel shame for causing a disturbance.
We need to adopt the latter attitude; if you're making people's lives harder you should be made to feel bad about it.

He's talked up new games and new game ideas in other interviews over the past year or two. He's even talked about how if he did move on, he'd have to find someone to replace him in XIV, but that no one else had the passion for XIV that he did, so he probably couldn't leave. I remember he said something along the lines of, "if the fans request me to make a new game, maybe SE will let me".

I'm guessing that SE can't really take that chance given that no one could likely replace Yoshida and that there are bigger issues the company still has to wrestle with like trying to finish Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

I don't mind this much though since Yoshida seems to be pretty successful with XIV and I imagine SE will continue to let him do what he likes with it given his track record. Still, I imagine he'd get put on a new project eventually and get moved off of XIV soonish. It's probably just a matter of resources at SE Japan, since they're busy with those other two big games. Oh yea, FF7R recently got moved to internal SE development. Probably another factor.

Glamour log is all I want. The only reason I don't participate in the glamour system right now is because it's a ridiculous waste of space. My retainers are already full to bursting with materials, materia, and other misc shit. I have no room for a decent collection of glamour on top of that.

But if I could just pick from everything then not only would I actually use glamours, I'd be constantly running old shit to collect them.

On the one hand, I think SE will have to move him off XIV eventually because he's very capable and they need people of his talent working on their biggest, most challenging projects. On the other hand, I could imagine FFXIV running profitably for a very long time. The MMO space isn't that large. Sure, you've got all the F2P/B2P Korean/Chinese grind fests, but they're out and done within a few years. They're high end mobile games. Seeing how WoW has continued to go on strong for so long, I don't see why SE couldn't push XIV for a long time. And I know XI is still around but it fell off a cliff when they tried to push everyone onto XIV 1.0. Imagine if XIV could keep going like this with no FF MMO successor until 2025 or something.

Show which debuffs can be esunad (I think SB is doing this somehow)
Removing the ~2 second delay between switching mobs and seeing the aggro list for them
Ability to discard, equip, use, etc items while a store screen is open
"repair everything in your inventory" button
Marketboard suggested default price reflects actual market board values, not vendor values
Marketboard price lookup on items in your inventory and in loot lists (so I don't have to list/lookup each item individually to figure out what's worth selling and what should just be tossed to a vendor)

Not all FCs are all about raiding, some are about crafting or casually playing/socializing.

For instance my FC is mostly social and if you want to raid seriously then we encourage you to find a static with similar interests. You're welcome to use FC buffs and contribute to FC by doing raids so we can get FC points.

Because FCs are social groups, not content-oriented ones. People want to interact with others in contexts besides raids. It's not really hard to understand.

That's the way people do it now, yes, but no other games really have this phenomenon. Other games have it where your guild is your go-to for progression while community stuff is more informal. Why is XIV the opposite of this?
>>
>>379849242
if I can recall, the reason why you appear outside your house when you login is to cause less server stress. Entering your house counts as a instance and when you log out inside a instance, your character still occupies the instance and if hundreds of people are doing that all at once then it causes unnecessary lag for the instance server that handles housing.
>>
>>379849372

They aren't "totally new", though.
Sure, it is petty much a new dungeon gameplay-wise (new bosses, sometimes a different route to explore, etc), but they recycle pretty much the whole "normal" dungeon, it obviously save them tons of dev time since they don't have to be create many areas from scratch. The fact that they had access to tons of 1.0 content helped a lot too.

Games don't generally ride on the absolute mix-max balance though. What I'm saying is that they need to build and figure out the balance of the entire system from top to bottom instead of just the extreme top, with far less time and manpower.

In any game of decent size like this, and especially a multiplayer one, just getting the balance to a decent state for release takes an immense amount of dev time when they have to consider all content levels, all jobs and of course the content itself. They don't have the same kind of space for fine tuning that players do.

Eorzea is a big deal due to all the primal summonings going on there, and the empire sees them as a major threat. Same as 1.x with the massive amount of people touched by the echo, which allowed for all kinds of time travel fuckery and interacting with cutscenes (which was only touched upon once in ARR when we give Cid his goggles)

Ala Mhiggers is more of a case of us being forced to their front door by a sloppy plan, and it really shows how little even the devs care when the bulk of the focus thus far for SB seems to be with our Doman allies across the globe. We'll probably find out the Ala Mhigo populace actually enjoys being a part of the empire and then it leads to an internal rebellion that gets uts to Garlemed
>>
>>379851254
This is literally the opposite of the truth if you read the lore book. Garlean land is a nigh inhospitable shitty wasteland with almost no arable land for farming. They're only surviving by improvising the use of Allagan technology since they can't use magic.
>>
>>379851254
it's more land for them to conquer, evil empires tend to like conquering shit
more specifically the garleans are trying to emulate the allagans, and the allagans REALLY didn't like primals. eorzea has a lot of primals in it

we care about ala mhigo mostly because they're on our side and thanks to illberd we don't have a say in the matter anymore anyway

They were teased in 3.0, revealed in 3.1 and resolved in 3.4. The turnaround period was fine. The problem was that they failed to actually accomplish anything noteworthy before being defeated. Almost everything they did happened off-screen, and they didn't do much. Retrieved the eyes of nidhogg, killed a few beastmen/primals, briefly wounded alisaie, and that was it. They didn't come off as threatening at all even though it seemed like they were supposed to be a big fucking deal, the counterpart to the WoL and a power even the Ascians had resorted to relying on.

Like, with Gaius and Thordan and Nidhogg, the threat they posed felt legitimate because they had killed people or generally caused noticeable destruction/havoc. WoD didn't do shit.

I hope they learned their lesson and the reward is something purely cosmetic like a title or mount or something.

Y'shtola was the only good thing about that endless quest chain.

Spent about 2 hours questing. This game is insanely boring. I was playing a punchy girl. Combat sucks
>>
>>379854687
The only one I can remember enjoying off the top of my head is all the way back in 2.0 when you're in Coerthas and fighting off a bunch of heretics, and just when you're getting overwhelmed Haurchefaunt and some random conjurer come to your aid.
>>
>>379854913
fucking CUTE

>>379854843
you can already do supersampling in your GPU control panel

increased object draw never because 32bit limitations and they don't want 64bit players to have an advantage over 32bit.

They already said 32bit players will have to suffer a bit from increased housing furnishing though.

>>
>>379855078
housing is petty shit. but increased draw distance in say 72man pvp could give people an advantage as they can call out invasions earlier.
>>
>>379854792
yeah that's kinda what i was getting at, the teaser stuff made it look like they were going an actual threat

plus like >>379854348 was talking about you also had the story problem that defeating them would have doomed their world, and it would have been nice to have it solved in a way that didn't end up with everything being fine

at least urianger doing sneaky shit for like 2-3 years had a good conclusion
>>
>>379854794
The savage version should have just been titles/mount and ability to run the same content again, not increasing the ilvl even higher.
>>
Whats that fucking blue robot spider mount I see people running around in. How do I get one

Gives them more time and resources to put towards other things than "here's your obligatory dungeons this patch".
Only one of them is ever relevant to anything anyhow.

reminder majority of JP players play on PS3/4 and have much higher clear rates for savage than NA and EU combined
reminder JP has collectively made a blacklist for shitty, unsportsmanlike players without abusing it and NA could never do it because stupid gajins are babies and would abuse it against people they don't like personally
