I really want to get into SFM, to animate Overwatch porn and whatnot
How hard is it to produce something decent if you're willing to learn?
I head about using Blender or Maya, but this is a bit too complicated for now
Anyone familiar with the tool?

It's an easy and intuitive tool, there's no reason to learn Blender/Maya for SFM animations.

Animation is universal, to do good in SFM, you need to learn the basics of animation in the first place.

don't go to /3/, they'll laugh at you.

Just go on youtube and search tutorials, then practice.

Blender is a lot more difficult to use and doesn't have a gigantic library of free models that work for what you want out of the box.
It does produce better content, but you'll either have to pay other modelers for their models to get the good ones or make your own.

You can do animations in blender and export the model with the animations intact for use in unity.

Since sfm is good at animations I thought it could export something unity could recognise.

SFM isn't "good" at animation.
It's just easy. Plug and play model installation.
Easy to use interface.

It has a severely limited lighting engine compared to Blender/Maya. It also has bad model controls (models cannot be changed after compiling, only by bone scaling or built in flexes).
Propably a slew of other things.

I use SFM myself because I'm not savvy enough to use the big boy software. I only use it as a hobby, not a patreon comissioner doing it as actual work.

From what I've seen the ones who still do SFM have better animations than the ones who use Blender. Some of the Blender animators make the characters look like they're made of fucking bubblegum, and don't forget the janky animations too.

That level of quality cannot be reproduced in SFM, no matter the skill of the animator/poser.

Ellowas only good one was the Widowmaker one, think that was one of if not the first. One of his recent ones, the Dva one I think, was mediocre. Same with that one Mercy one. Leeterr is probably one of the best.

I've tried fiddling around with it but damn the settings in SFM seem so limiting, there's got to be some weird shit you can do with all kind of lights to get it to look as good as his.

You can try post-processing with something like After Effects, but yeah the SFM lighting is pretty basic.

I'm guessing he uses the max render settings though, right? I haven't tried the highest yet but I get the feeling that even if I did the models still wouldn't look as good in the end(mainly thinking about Lara). That can't be because of lighting setup and shit, right?

I dunno if it's the animations or models but from what I've seen blender blows sfm right out the water. It gets to the point where all sfm animations look the same. I think the textures in sfm look worse overall too, dunno why.

Look up people like yeero, arhoangel, blenderknight. We really don't need anymore sfm animators.
