There is no variance in stats, what you say is correct. A maxed out medusa will have the same stats as another maxed out medusa. But to max out your medusa will require limited resources(grails & lores) as well as fous.

Except for the NP where's it's a whale thing, everything is to be grinded for. But you'll mostly want to grind the events that allows you to buy the mats you want unless you want to end up insane.

Just to warn you, the dango event, that should happen in global around the start of september is by far the worst event grind-wise to get its currency, I still have enough stones dropped by the monsters from it to upgrade any saber I get almost two years after that event happened.
