The core difference in RPG game especially with 1 and 2 is that in the first game with the harder difficulty you have to dive dig deep in the mechanic of the game if you want to survive(stacking potions,secondary effects on potion indigence,coatings,ctually reading the books ect.) where as in the second one its collect this much get this and you are done,you can finish it on hardest difficulty.
