It's pretty effective though, petty street criminals don't have them - it would have to be focused on high level crime and even then you would have a very limited arsenal, vintage/homemade guns mostly. Even terrorists have a hard time getting guns, which is why they just use trucks.

There are shootings that happen every single day in Australia, especially drive by gang shootings. Banning guns did jack shit. The cops regularly raid weapons caches hidden in warehouses and businesses and homes and find tons of full auto and semi auto weapons. The bikie gangs also have gun manufacturing warehouses hidden all over the place making their own original weapon designers. There is also illegal weapon smuggling like crazy in Australia.

Banning guns literally did jack shit, it did nothing but remove hands from law abiding citizens, and law abiding citizens only. Also many people just hid their guns during the buyback anyways.
