Why is KOTOR 3 taking so long?

The biggest problem with the Old Republic era is the lack of familiarity.

In order for any video game based on that era to garner profit, there's going to need to be an Old Republic movie, canonizing KotOR.

Bioware officially stated TORtanic is KOTOR 3. Just imagine it's a single player game and the Imp Agent is the only playable character. It's actually salvageable as a game.

Actually, it being so far ahead of the movies is actually its greatest strength. From a technology and formula standpoint, its perfectly identifiable. But then it's not stuck tied to Anakin Jesus and the rebellion plot lines.

Kotor 3 ain't happening, the best you can ever hope for is a remake/remaster of Kotor 1. Bioware is intent on pretending Kotor 2 doesn't exist.

The Old Republic era was established before the games and looked a lot different. Purposefully archaic and with a lot less of the tone of a Galactic Civilization. More space sword and magic barbarians. Tech looked weird, there was a lot more force as magic juju.

This got sanitized into the recognizably Episodes 1-6 era level of style and technology for the game, specifically because people wanted familiarity with a Star Wars game. KotOR is essentially an AU for the amount it was ever tied into the movies and their setting. You get all the monk-like Jedi running around, all the war, all the white armored mooks and crazy sith, the nostalgic old school futuristic style without having to deal with the baggage of the movies plots and characters

It's not one of the saner moments of the setting, no. I think it was one of those times people read the line "this mechanical monstrosity is nothing next to the power of the Force" and took it literally. I wasn't necessarily ragging on KotOR for it either. Tales of the Jedi looked cool and had some great moments, but it very much also suffered from typical EU weirdness.
