Artstyle is meh but I have an itch for the type of game I think it is. It's also probably one of those games that are much better when played with friends.

That is some pretty bland artstyle, with a collection of very forgettable characters. There is a limit on how much you should "play safe" with a project, and this game definitively crossed it.
Then again, I'm just judging it based on a single picture.

I think it looks pretty good in motion. You're right about it playing safe etc though, even after the stuff I've seen I'm not sure if they're intended to be 'characters' or just random people from various parts with some pre-set like State of Decay or something. There's definitely no 'character design' as such. I don't personally consider that a problem, but there are tons of examples of a proper cast, as opposed to literally whos, elevating a game (Overwatch is a big modern one).
