So what exactly DID Starfox fans want from a new installment?
>>
another rehash of star fox 64
>>
A 3D rail shooter

I don't understand why this is so hard
>>
>>379795714
on-rails levels
good bosses
Zero had neither
>>
SF0, but without the needless motion controls
>>
I liked zero, I said it before and I'll say it again. The gameplay/controls were fine, I just wanted more content. Maybe a bit more speed like in that one level where you sped up, but other than that it was okay.
>>
>>379795714
Krystal and her tits
>>
Miyamoto fucked it up. I'll always love the guy, but it's time to leave the creative process to others.
>>
>>379796129
Sector Omega is pretty much the only level that matches 64's intensity
The game in general is a lot slower because they had framerate issues
>>
>tfw we will never get another mainline Star Fox game because they didn't put enough effort into this one
>>
>>379796203
>>
A 64 sequel. It fascinates me how nintendo has fucked up repeatedly for over a decade.

We wanted a game that advanced the story despite the amount of time that passed, had a control scheme that's at least tolerable, and fucking real local/online multiplayer.
>>
More gimmicks.

There weren't nearly enough stupid vehicles in Zero
>>
>>379796638
>had a control scheme that's at least tolerable
Try again.
>>
>>379796729
The Gyrocopter is the worst vehicle in the series, bar none. Its worse than the blue marine.
>>
>>379795714
Keep all the good parts about Assault and improve on the area's where it was weak. Also to not be a reboot. It felt unnecessary and done just to try and rely on 64 nostalgia.
>>
>>379796276
It's slower to balance motion controls.
>>
I liked Star Fox Zero. I would have liked it a lot more if it had an on-rails boss or two, more Arwing missions, the ability to fly the Wolfen ships or customize your Arwing, and maybe true co-op or some sort of battle mode/online component.
>>
>>379795714
A good on rails shooter with immersive gameplay

Basically this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXLmDRwxAUU
>>
>fans ask for revival of forgotten franchise
>add retarded ass gimmick for no reason, making the game nearly unplayable
>game does terrible
>"well we're not doing that again"
And that ladies and gentleman is why we will never get another F-zero.
>>
>>379795714
A 2D platformer
>>
>>379797123
I don't know what kind of retard you would have to be to think the motion control of Star Fox Zero makes it unplayable. It is literally the best part of the game and you can even turn it off, not even close to being one of the major flaws.
>>
>>379797286
the chicken walker shit had platforming and it was garbage
>>
Online multiplayer
>>
>>379795714
A game that played like Star Fox 64 without actually being Star Fox 64
They fucked that right up with how gay the gyro aiming is if you aren't standing up or in an office chair
>>
>Original story/levels
>Non-cancer control scheme

That's about it.
>>
gay furry porn
that's all /v/ wants
>>
>>379796865
You get used to it after like the third chapter at the very least unless you were a fatass that could barely ball up a fist.
>>
>>379798149
It causes strain on my left hand regardless of whether I'm holding it up or setting it awkwardly on ym lap. Doesn't help that I'm using an XL.

Why are Nintendo games so shallow?

It'd be a different story if they were halfway competent at actually delivering gameplay, but at this point they just conceptually have no ambition.
>>
>>379797368
You can't turn off motion controls for Star Fox Zero, you can for the Star Fox 64 remake on the 3DS though, which honestly makes it even more infuriating.

Then to add insult to injury, by the time you get a handle on the controls, the game's already done, so you're just kinda sitting there going "that's it?"

>You can't turn off motion controls for Star Fox Zero
Not completely but you can turn the motion to "only when ZL is held" which is basically the same thing since your reticle will snap back to the front of your ship when you're not firing, and that firing mode makes the control of the game feel like a dream. You actually have to git gud in order to get the medals and the best times on missions and mastering the game DOES feel good, but it didn't warrant the $60 price tag. It would have benefited from the stuff I outlined here >>379797083 imo.
>>
>>379798267
I just gripped the top screen with a pinky while holding the 3DS with my left hand, I remember going through the boss rush mode without even feeling cramped by the controls but I did have trouble with it when I first started playing it.

If Star Fox Zero had as good a fakeout as KI:U did, I think the game would've been better received. Like imagine you beat Andross and suddenly you find out that there's a new villain pulling the strings and the game opens up an entirely new galaxy for you to explore.
>>
I'm still waiting for a true sequel to Assault.

If given to the right team it'd be totally amazing
>>
>>379798379
Reminder that Iwata forced the Gamepad shit on Miyamoto. Miyamoto just picked Star Fox for whatever reason.
>>
>>379798643
>If Star Fox Zero had as good a fakeout as KI:U did
They hinted towards it with all the stuff about Pepper hiding things from Fox.
And then they just dropped it. Miyamoto's anti-story autism strikes again
>>
>>379798626
>Not completely but you can turn the motion to "only when ZL is held" which is basically the same thing since your reticle will snap back to the front of your ship when you're not firing
It's a goddamn arcade shooter moron, when the fuck would you NOT be firing?

Driving a car and playing BotW are completely different though. Now I'm not defending the Gamepad or its utilization (or lack thereof), but this seems like a pretty arbitrary metaphor.

Driving a car, for instance, can be fun.
>>
>>379798789
>when the fuck would you NOT be firing?
Any time you're holding a charged shot, dipshit. It's clear you've never played a Star Fox game above simply mashing buttons because you get the most points from charged shot combos, not blindly firing a constant stream of lasers.
>>
>>379798789
Have you played the game? The aim is extremely intuitive when you're tapping the fire button and it never passively misaligns since the reticle is always re-centering. It is a non-issue if you're not a drooling mongrel.
>>
>>379795714

>>379799375
Scoring in Star Fox is 100% balanced around charge shots and that doesn't invalidate what I said, either. I dare you to go get any of the gold medals without using charge shots.

The music in this game is fucking great.
>>
>>379799610
>>379799647
Listen fellas, you can play however you want, it's okay to play on easy mode, nobody's going to make fun of you.

Anyways, it's a moot point because I ended up trading the game in for a copy of BotW. Probably one of the best decisions I've made this year.
>>
>>379799904
>I ended up trading the game in for a copy of BotW.
Good move.
>>
>>379799904
I have SFZ and BOTW. SFZ has flaws but I'm gonna hang on to it since I like it better than any other Star Fox abomination that's come out post-64. Even the 64 remake on 3DS had butchered music and was set to a snails pace.
