There is a good game deep inside it. IS was almost there.
The waifus didnt kill it, hell if not for the waifus the game wouldve had no identity.
The bland maps and just generally easy gameplay kinda mulched it for the fans. No objectives and a Robin/Chrom/Donnel+ their waifus paired up with their OP as hell children kinda slaying everything in sight made the game a bit meh.

It was big in scale in the wrong ways. I always say that a maps quality can be roughly dictated by how often you wait for the enemy to run into your sword instead of actually planning things.

Meh game. Not a bad game though. Fates was bad.

Story-wise and Gamplay-wise it's beaten by the Jugdral games, although Character-wise is one of the best sporting great supports and character specific boss dialogues. Too bad they dropped the ball with Radiant Dawn.

I've done a ton of FE5 challenge runs: SSS, LTC, 0% growths, ironman, warpless, etc. (I'm currently in the middle of a run, I'll resume progress in a couple weeks). I find the added restrictions really add a lot to the tactical depth, as there are many overpowered tactics that let you breeze through FE5 but in a challenge run you need to make the most of every little mechanic to get the best result. I don't get it, if I play on Normal I can stomp every map with 1 unit and leave everybody on the sideline, with or without the RNGod on my side. If I play on Hard I can stomp every map with 2 (4) units and leave everybody on the sideline. If I play on Lunatic I HAVE to play each map more or less in a very specific fashion, which pretty much boils down to Jagen-ing it for the first few maps and then resetting for RNG.

Where's the strategy? Do I have to handicap myself in the name of no-character animu soldiers to make up for IntSys' failure to balance or overhaul their game in 20-odd years?

I'll admit Swordmasters and Berzerkers are Very Strong in 6 and Swordmasters in 10, but that's because of the 30/20 crit bonus. But having more movement and being able to act after most actions (and attacking in 9/10) allows the player to do alot more. I think all the DS/3DS games (save BR/Rev, as I haven't played them) surpass RD in pure difficulty, and I say this with RD as my favorite game. I think the only one you can make an argument for are SD H5 not being as rough because of how busted forging and warping are in that game. I do agree that it is one of the harder games, especially up to that point in the series

FE5 should be moved down because the enemies are pathetically weak and the game gives you a ton of overpowered stuff that trivializes much of the challenge.

FE13 lunatic+ isn't listed, but it shouldn't place very high in the list because the tactics involved are still quite simple; you're only controlling a couple characters at most.

FE11 should move down, even the most casual player will notice that warp staves and forging make the game a joke.

It was probably the old "planned to span more games but the previous game didn't do too hot so now we gotta wrap this up" jam. I assume there could have been at least one more game planned to focus entirely on Elincia so Micaiah and the Dawn Brigade could have more time to develop. Even the blood pact seems like something they had to whip out of nowhere because said conflict was planned but they ran out of time to really build on that properly but still needed it to happen.
