It's much harder, the companions add a lot of variety, the extra world is fantastic, the boss fights were actually fun this time around, and the music is almost literally perfect. Every song was at least good, and several songs are among my favorite in all of vidya.

The world designs and themes were also brilliant. I loved how World 5 evolved. You went in knowing and expecting nothing after the shitshow that was World 4, and then you're greeted by the best platformer world in any platformer game to date.

DKC3 is nowhere close to average. You were spoiled by DKC2. 3 has maps, world-building, music, ambience, characters. The game was far from average, it just wasn't the same as DKC2.

I really want them to port the Retro Kong games to Switch

My Wii U was busted from the beginning. The nonstop freezing made playing anything unfeasible (my lack of money and time as well as laziness prevented me from fixing it).

I have a job now but I also have a Switch and would rather just play them on there

Yea I'm honestly not sure why 3 gets shit shit on so much. It's my personal favorite.

They made an attempt to change up the gameplay every few levels while retaining some really good platforming in between, and I think they succeeded.

Not to mention the world over world was really nice, and the side quests were a fun challenge that made you want to explore.

It's honestly everything good about 1 and 2 plus a little more of its own sauce.

I suspect the reason DKC3 gets shit on so much is this:

In 1996 Nintendo and Sony were shilling their new 3D capable consoles, and wanted to game "journalists" to support this wave of the future. So, being idiots, the game journalists overcompensated by aggressively attacking every 2D game they got their hands on. Thus DKC3 got a reputation for being critically panned and the weakest of the trilogy even though it's a great game.

You wanna see some shit though, look up old reviews of Mischief Makers. They'd have you believe it was shovelware trash. It's like the God Hand of the late 90s.
