The real problem is that you even pay attention to modern gaming. I almost exclusively play PS1 and PS2 games these days, and I'm planning on getting a modded 360 or PS3 in a few months so that I can play all the games I missed out on when I was a teenager and only played GTA IV and Halo 3.

I might be in a better position than most though because even though gaming was my primary hobby for 15 years the number of games I actually played was very small and I replaced it with anime and movies when I was in high school so I have a lot of stuff to play for the first time.

I havent read many of the other comments, but a general vibe I get from /v/ nowadays is that there just isn't shit to play out there that is worth the time - this is my perspective, at least.

I'd like to learn how to make games, but I want to make a game that I want to play, and that I want to keep returning to play. I know that it'll take a lot, but it's something I can call mine at the end.

The only games I still return to are FNV, FO4 (because modding mainly),Dragons Dogma, Deus Ex (first one), System Shock 2, Halo, DayZ, GTA, and now PUBG, but they are all wearing on me a little, with the exception of the last one so far. It's mainly that all these games have all that I want in them (some could use more, looking at you FO4), but there is no single game that has it all for me. I'd like a game that encompasses all of this. Something that lets me switch between first and third person, action/adventure open world with actual shit to do it in and NPCs that are real enough to be believable, game mechanics that are continually fun to mess with and can be modified to my liking, and a game that lets me be me, without having to bitch endlessly on some devs twitter about MUH GENDER IDENTITY and stupid shit like that.
