I know this is a bait thread, but what would the most hardcore fighting game be? I'd have to say GG XX AC+R, but that's cause there's a ton of mechanics that fly completely over my head, with a second probably being ST or 3S.

Well the only reason NG is my candidate is because there are aspects that are slightly out of the player's control, to which they need to adjust themselves. It gets to a point where every single screen of the stage has its set of strategies. It basically forces you to devise speedrun strats just to clear the game normally.

That, along with the fact that the fucking game sends you back a whole bunch after losing to the final boss.

Oh, and before I forget:

Well, personally I feel like these are bad choices for your categories. I would have chose something like:
>Platformer: Ninja Gaiden for OG Xbox, though as you said it's debatable
>FPS: CS Source or Unreal Tournament (Though I have a not so good knowledge of Quake so I may be mistaken)
>MOBA: I don't play them, but I'll trust your judgement
>RTS: I've never played Starcraft, but all the RTS' I have played are rather shallow, so again I'll trust you
>GSG: Victoria 2, though there are those $80 WW2 Strategy games like Gary Grigsby's War in the East
>City-Builder: I have nothing for this one, though Sim-City 2000 maybe?

Unreal Tournament and Quake are similar in that they are both arena shooters, so either works. CS is hardcore, but in a different way, especially considering how maps work, objectives, ttk, overall speed and remember, CS is a team game. I'd accept either 1.6, GO, or Source, frankly.

Hearts of Iron is waaay more autistic and difficult than Vicky, trust me. However, I didn't even think of Gary Grigsby's War in the East and yeah, I think that's a damn autistic contender.

SC4 is way more feature-filled, intense and complex than any other simcity, 2000 included. That's why it's so loved.
