Was it ever explained anywhere why some of the wooden walkways Blighttown moved under you as you walked on them?

Or what that giant red pimple monster next to the Power Within pyromancy was?
>>
>>379697286
Shit to fuck you up.
Because fuck you.
Traps are hip and hot right now.

I loved Blighttown regardless of slowdowns.
>>
>>379697286
The whole place was put together very shoddily. The bridges were resting on thin wooden supports. It was basically a giant favela.
>>
>>379697286
Yea, it's called artificial difficulty.
>>
>>379697286
Rickety bridges and a gross bug that was getting fat on sewerage
>>
>Dark Souls
>"Was it ever explained why...?"
No.
>>
Red pimple monster is Yellow King actually, after he completelly succumbed into demonic infection
>>
The bigger questions is why Anor Londo was so fucking clean
It's an abandoned city filled with monsters and yet it was absolutely spotless
Am i supposed to believe that those bat demons traded their spears for broomsticks and started sweeping?
>>
whats the big deal with this area
i actually loved it and didnt find it that annoying or difficult
>>
>>379698374
Back in the days framerate would drop on that level, making fighting the tribesmen and dart throwers and dogs a nightmare while trying not to fall down to your death
>>
>>379697965
>Am I supposed to believe magic real???
>Am I supposed to believe doing a somersault makes you temporarily invincible???
>>
>>379698484
forgot to mention yeah i played it on ps3 and yes it did bug me but still had no trouble putting up with it ... just played it really safe and didn`t rush things
>>
>>379697286
Is it ever explained why there isn't any toilets in Anor Londo, doesn't seem like the place to have designated shitting streets like the Undead Burg.

Gwyndolin took care of Anor Londo by himself, and he had a little army of illusions and moon knights.
>>
>>379698374
for me frame rate dropped, and I kept getting lost.
>>
>>379698716
They shit from rafters on the lower city. It's full of shit while the upper city is clean.

1. The construction of the entire place was shit

they're just wobbly, special kid
>>
I went backwards through blighttown and had no poison cures, so making it to the save point was fucking bliss when I finally made it hours later.

Also didnt have the depths door open either so couldnt go through that
>>
After finishing blighttown I suddenly missed the feeling of being lost. I wish the area was a lot bigger and made it tougher to progress down to Quelaag, like maybe having an additional boss up in the wood structures somewhere.
>>
>>379699206

Nightmare frontier swamp is a better comparision
>>
>>379697286

No but using your own intuition, if you have any, you can clearly see that blighttown is not a stable place, and a floor of poisonous sludge is not a stable foundation.

That giant red pimple monster was exactly that, a monster. From blighttown the poisonous place.

Do you need everything EXPLAINING?
>>
item placement often has a justification

clearly, you got the power within spell from a dead pyromancer that was eaten by the giant bug
>>
>>379699748
And the name of that pyromancer is Xanthous King, Jeremiah
>>
Blighttown would be fine if it wasn't for those horrible framerate drops
>>
>>379697286

>Was it ever explained anywhere why game worked at 5-7 fps while exploring Blighttown?

PS3 was horrible, first time it took me 3-4 hours to get down with that shit frame rate.
>>
>>379699950
If PS3 worked at 7fps PC version worked at -30fps
>>
How do you get anything into Burg or Londo?
There are no real main streets or large gates to the outside.
>>
>>379699492
ofc, I knew there was something else.

Dark souls 3 was basically the same game as dark souls but without shitty annoying areas like blighttown and 10 times better bosses.

That being said, playing dark souls for the first time was the most magical feeling.
>>
>>379700746
More like to have him penetrate you by his various body parts.
>>
>>379702792
I like areas like blighttown. They make you change your play-style. You can complete Dark Souls 3 by being a roll-fag everywhere. Can't do that in Sen's fortress or Blighttown.

>>
Did anyone here beat ceaseless discharge the legit way? If you're too close to him the camera is shitty and you can't tell what he's gonna do and if you're too far away then you can't hit him after he attacks.
>>
>>379698374
Its the thing with all that type of areas. They are designed to be frustrating and hard, and even when they are succesful most people dislike them. Stressful zone concepts rarely become popular for that reason. The only level that has done so seems to be Iron Keep. Valley of Defilement 1-1, Blightown and the Gutter meanwhile remain disliked, even though their design is often considered good.
>>
>>379699542
>Blighttown isn't stable that's why the pathways moved left to right completely horizontally and only when you got near them.

>and a floor of poisonous sludge is not a stable foundation
most of upper Blighttown where all the rickety paths are, are build into the support beams/arches of firelink

>that giant pimple monster is there because of poison. Nevermind most other monsters have some degree of actual explanation, lol poison should be enough
>>
>>379699353
But BT is already the largest zone in the game on almost all metrics except boss count?

>>
>>379703017
Blighttown isn't bad due to the swamp part, but for the combination of different stressful mechanics
>>
>>379703445
I know but it still didn't feel big enough to really fulfill it's role.
ToTG felt like it lasted for long enough, since the conditions and threats felt so extreme, but a lot of the point with blighttown was to make the player feel really lost. I wish it was a lot bigger and had more branching pathways to emphasise it.
>>
>>379699242
Maybe they could actually make it wobble next time then. Because it just fucking moves.
>>
For all the praise this game gets for its world design, a lot of the actual areas are kinda shitty or meh.

Dark souls has absolute no protection against people using cheat trainers. So you can basically use cheats like infinite health in the online mode.

I recommend you download a cheat trainer yourself to protect yourself. Just google dark souls cheat trainer.

darkroot garden is my favorite zone in Dark Souls, fuck off. Legit magic garden with cute shrooms and ganking bandits.
>>
>>379703668
Every area you just listed is actually good, except for Lost Izalith.
Blighttown is amazing. Great design, cool items to find, nice view. It only gets shit on because it's a slideshow on consoles.
>>
>>379703971
They can, they do and they have.

>Bait arm slam
>move to side, dodge the hit
>wail on arm a few hits
>repeat

You can't just stand still and dodge the hit with a roll, hitbox too large, but small movement and then dodge actually gets you an extra 1 or 2 attacks as opposed to just running the fuck out of the way.
>>
>>379703668
Sounds to me like you can't play without abusing iframes.
>>
>>379698374

I've never even played the area, because the first time I went there I quickly found my way to the boss and apparently bypassed a ton of stuff. After that I never really felt any reason to handle it any differently.
>>
>>379703274
I hid in the small sidepath and baited his tentacle which then clipped through the wall and let me attack him without ever getting hit - does that count as the legit way?
I can't think of any other reason why that corridor is even there in the first place.
>>
>>379703971
Is there any way to consistently beat him without doing the corridor cheesing?
>>
>>379697965
>Filled with monsters
Literally which ones? The sentinels are illusions, they don't make a mess. The Painting Guardians obviously aren't monsters that would make a mess and neither are the Silver Knights. The Lesser Bat-winged Demons I could see an argument for but its also been established that they are servants of the gods so they're probably housebroken, just like the giant blacksmith. The only one I could see an argument for is the one Gargoyle but I don't think Gargoyles are really that dirty, they mostly just sit there and act like statues until some undead faggot shows up. Same for Mimics.

There is the Titanite Demon but then again, the room you find him in IS fucked up and dirty so....yeah.

Honestly, the dirtiest thing in Anor Londo is probably the Chosen Undead.
>>
>>379704784

Fairly certain the entire reason the bridge kill even exists is because ceaseless was too ridiculous to kill in testing. You probably can, but I doubt any sane person would do it.
>>
>>379704784
The arm bait cheese or the lure to entrance cheese?
I mean, I've beat him out in the massive open part before but it took ages since his moveset becomes 99% spew fire.

As for the 2 cheese methods, arm baiting and wailing on it is incredibly quick compared to luring.
>>
>>379704784
>>379705079
I literally didn't know that you could bridge kill him until a friend got stuck on it and had to look up an easier way to kill him.

I still kill him legit just because I've always done it that way. Its not that hard, he doesn't have much defense/health and you can kill him relatively quickly. As long as he doesn't do his fire attack, its not hard to dodge out of the way of his swipes or even just block the strikes because if you survive them he leaves himself vulnerable for a full 10-15 seconds.
>>
>>379705270
>I still kill him legit just because I've always done it that way.
who are you showing off for?
>>
>>379705041
Hey you take that back, my toon was very clean
>>
>>379705269
>The arm bait cheese or the lure to entrance cheese?
I meant the arm bait cheese in the corridor with the corner. I had no idea until this thread that you can get him to jump onto the bridge if you go back to the fog gate.
>>
>>379704784
Full Havel plus iron flesh and a 20 estus, or with fast roll, as long as you bait the arm attack, the fire thing is almost impossible to evade
>>
>>379703345
>iron keep and the gutter were well designed

No, they werent. Enemy placement in iron keep was laughably lazy and took away from the entire experience. Enemy placement ruined that entire game. The gutter wasn't as bad but still not great. Black gulch was also a hilariously badly designed area.
>>
Ceaseless discharge sounds like my ex girlfriends vagina! Lmao amirite fellas?
>>
>>379705342
Nobody, because I don't really consider it to be showing off. He's really not that hard to kill as long as you don't let him do the fire attack. I just learned to do it one way and haven't tried to do it another.

I'm not saying its a good boss or anything, its attacks are bullshit. Its fire attack is literally broken, and the hit duration on its tentacles is ridiculous, but it leaves itself vulnerable for so long afterward that you have time to heal up, have some tea, emote a couple times, and still have time to get some attacks in. Its really not that bad, especially if you don't know you have an alternative.
>>
>>379705658
>The gutter wasn't as bad but still not great. Black gulch was also a hilariously badly designed area.

I'm pretty sure the Titanite Demon is somewhat resistant to that type of damage though. Whereas Gwyndolin is vulnerable to the melee strikes of the Titanite Demon.

If you put the Titanite Demon in Gwyndolin's room, I'm positive Gwyndolin would win, because the demon would never reach him, but thats not as fun.

I can't help but think that the intended way of fighting him was to chop off his hand so you could get the ring and then fight him on the lava but that'd mean that you would have to either read the description of a seemingly random item you just found and then equip it which is like the last thing you'd do during a boss battle or end up dying and do the same outside of the arena.

One of the character creation face presets is black. The "jubilant Catarina". Siegmeyer and Sieglinde of Catarina (onion knights) are white under their helmet though.

What? This is a conversation about GOOD BOSS FIGHTS. Not gear_check.fight
>>
>>379707723
The market dictates the content. Dark Souls was meant to be sold internationally, and white-majority nations are the biggest markets for such games, so it was built with that in mind. Games that aren't meant for export only have japanese characters, locales, humour, tropes etc.

Jesus christ I didn't even see that he wrote gaping dragon. He must be trolling.

There is no way any human being with a functioning brain can think that was a challenging fight in any way.

>>
>>379708336
It's kinda challenging if you don't kill the wizard at the top.
>>
>>379708025
It's a shame, too, because the fact that you can get the ring that way shows they put some thought into it, which just doesn't seem to have been fully realised.

I have to say, if there's one thing from DS1 that should have been carried over and wasn't, it would be tail cut items/weapons. Sure permanently missable items suck, but DS2 had bonfire ascetics so it wouldn't have even been an issue.
>>
>>379706595
Wouldn't agree on Nito. Literally never lost to that guy. And i played the game 20+ times. Even on sl1 he wasn't a problem.

ds1: a few good bosses with mostly meh bosses

ds2: mostly piss easy bosses with the occasional okay boss

hmmmmm
>>
>>379708459
Did you kill him without permanently killing the skellies? I thought that was kinda bullshit that I had to look it up.
>>
>>379708336
Unchallenging bosses can sometimes be good desu. Gaping just is neither.
>>
>>379706803
Gargoyles are still challenging for new players because having 2 big enemies trying to fuck you up at the same time is a problem. Having a +5 weapon doesn't really matter in that case.

But i gotta agree that it is a good boss fight.

Four Kings is a bullshit boss.
Making bosses with multiple enemies is a lazy design choice to ramp up the difficulty level.

Give me Gael like bosses, one boss with transformations

Dodge the skeletons and kill them without moving away from the spot you drop in. They come to you so just kill them in a swipe or two. Wait for Nito to come to you and just kill him. He'll do aoe attacks that knock down the skeletons. I seriously don't know if you can get hit by those aoes because i just roll with random timing and never got hit.

I bought this month's Humble Bundle for Dark Souls 2, having just suffered through the terrible PC controls to beat the first game. It was pretty fun, how does the second hold up? Was it worth buying?

Also I found out I had an unclaimed code for Deadly Premonition on my account.

I played Dark Souls 2 a long time after the first one, so I can't really say how they compare. I enjoyed it a lot, but the world design and lore are noticeably much worse
>>
>>379698576
Yeah???
>>
>>379709829
Dark Souls 2 is different to Dark Souls. It fixes some things (omni-directional rolling and multi-soul popping) and breaks others (Soul Memory and ADP).

You might like it, you might not, but it's worth trying it regardless.
>>
>>379708620

then why didn't you bitch about o&s? or even the bell gargoyles, fag
>>
>>379710530
I'm not that guy, but O&S aren't carbon copies of each other like the Kings, and killing one first changes the second half of the fight drastically.
Four Kings is just one of the shittiest boss fights, literally just stack poise and stand in front of them.
>>
>>379710984
>stack poise
Learn to dodge
>>
>>379711271
Why over-complicate things when poise in DS is literally easy mode?
>>
>have so much trouble with bell bats that I had to summon twice to beat it
>beat O&S on my second try without summons
Why do people even think O&S are hard. O just runs to you to get it, plus his attacks do pathetic damage.
>>
>>379711487
Can be a bit overwhelming focusing on two foes. Here I am, happily shoving my spear into this fat fuck's ass, when this jewish motherfucker teleports behind me and takes away half my health.
>>
>>379699206
>under the Clinic
That area is so short and unimportant it shouldn't be listed. Plus there's nothing fun about it. Very little exploration and a bunch of annoying worms you can't hit half the time.
>>
>>379711806
>spearfags
Halbred with a tank build just wrecks them both. Only thing that gave me a problem was the buttslam attack after O died a pathetic death

Plus it is so damn easy to heal during the fight, just hide behind a pillar and watch as the AI sloowly go around it
>>
>>379702792
>without shitty annoying areas like blighttown
Blighttown is actually fun. Farron keep was shitty and annoying. Generic swamp area that's actually a step back from all previous swamp areas in the series because it's so uninteresting. Then copy and pasted giant fuckers placed wherever the fuck who cares. Let's have 3 of them guard a poison gem because why not? That's worth their time, right?
>>
>>379711914
Yep and Nightmare Frontier swamp is much more explorable though equally annoying.
>>
>>379712385
I didn't really plan out my build back then. Now I have a great scythe with crystal magic weapon, and I can kill all bosses in 4 or 5 strikes.
>>
>>379703668
Lost Izalith and The Duke's Archives are the only bad areas in the game.
>>
>>379707250
Quelaag and Gwyn, no lie.
They both made me drop the game for weeks. I've never beaten Gwyn without summoning because I can't parry.
