Vanilla is bad by today's standards. ESPECIALLY if you've been spoiled by post-wotlk QoA changes.
And it's even worse if you played a shitload of vanilla and bc back in 05/06. The content is just so incredibly stale.
I tried going back so many times, the pservers weren't even that bad technically. It's just that vanilla is so boringly slow and after having done every quest and every area 5 times in vanilla and bc back then, it feels more like work to do them all over again. It's just not fun. But then again, current wow isn't very fun after doing the content 1-2 times, either.

The effect of nostalgia is that we want to play something, we think of it as awesome in our heads. But when we actually start playing, it quickly becomes dull.

I miss actually leveling. I tried to go back for a month, but after receiving the free character level up, I went and tried to do a full progression.
I was level 45 within the hour, and that was with alot of durdeling around. I would get through half of the firat quest line before I had to switch to a new area. I would see maybe 30% of a previous expansion before moving on.
