It was Venom Snake finally ridding himself of his inner guilt, he crushed himself, ie the demon.

MGSV is not a story about showing Big Boss turning evil, it's about showing how he was already evil by TPP. Venom Snake subconsciously tries to act like the legend of Big Boss, because in his mind Big Boss is a hero; but in reality he simply isn't. Venom Snake has an identity crisis because to him the man he thinks Big Boss is doesn't exist . He tries to be a good person while also being the leader of a bunch of dogs of war, which weighs heavy on his heart.

At the very end Venom Snake gives up, the terrible actions he has committed as Big Boss's phantom become too much. He crushes the last part of his old self and left is simply Big Boss.

He figured out there's another repeat mission after this
